Job summary

Airswift is seeking a Senior Telecom Engineer for an Abu Dhabi-based brownfield electrical substation project. The role covers site surveys, defining telecom requirements, and secure network designs for transmission facilities.

Responsibilities

Job description

Position: Telecom Engineers (Electrical Substation Project) (2 vacancies)

Location: Abu Dhabi, UAE

Duration: 5 Months Contract

This project team will support the first 5 months of the project, consisting of site surveys and design activities. Candidates must already be based in the UAE and ideally have previous electrical substation experience.

Role Overview

Short-term UAE-based Telecom Engineer contract supporting a brownfield substation project through consulting/advisory division. The role involves conducting site surveys, defining telecommunications requirements, developing secure communication network designs, and supporting telecom infrastructure implementation for utility and substation environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform site surveys and assessments for telecom systems within transmission and substation facilities.
• Define and document telecom infrastructure requirements for new and existing substation projects.
• Design secure communication architectures supporting operational and business requirements.
• Develop and review telecom engineering deliverables, reports, drawings, and technical specifications.
• Design and support implementation of: MPLS networks VLAN configurations Firewalls VPN solutions 4G/5G communication systems
• Coordinate telecom scope with multidisciplinary engineering teams including Electrical, SCADA, and Cybersecurity disciplines.
• Support telecom equipment provisioning, IP addressing schemes, and network configuration activities.
• Ensure telecom systems comply with project standards, utility requirements, and cybersecurity policies.
• Provide technical support during design reviews and project execution phases.
• Participate in technical meetings with clients, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Identify risks and recommend solutions to ensure project delivery and operational reliability.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in telecommunications engineering.
• Demonstrated experience in electrical transmission and substation projects.
• Sound understanding of industrial communication networks and utility telecom systems.
• Experience with WAN/LAN architectures and secure communication systems.
• Strong knowledge of: MPLS IP Networking VLANs Routing & Switching Firewalls VPN Technologies Wireless Communication (4G/5G) Familiarity with telecom integration for SCADA, OT, and critical infrastructure environments.
• Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience supporting UAE utility, transmission, or power sector projects.
• Knowledge of OT cybersecurity principles and secure network architecture.
• Experience working on brownfield substation projects.
• Professional certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, JNCIP, or equivalent networking certifications.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850 communication environments.
