Job summary

A leading company in the UAE is seeking a SCADA Technician responsible for maintaining and optimizing SCADA systems critical for Water, Power, and Fuel Networks. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with electronic systems and strong problem-solving abilities, ensuring system reliability and efficiency while complying with safety standards.

Qualifications

  • Minimum six years of experience in electronics/ELV maintenance.
  • Minimum three years of experience in SCADA systems within a power utility company.
  • Valid UAE driving license required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of SCADA systems.
  • Configuration and modification of SCADA circuits and logic controllers.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance of SCADA equipment.

Job description

The SCADA Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of SCADA systems used in monitoring and controlling Water, Power, Fuel Networks, and Energy Management assets. The role ensures system reliability, efficiency, and security while supporting operational needs and minimizing downtime.

  • Diploma or bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Automation, or a related field.
  • Valid UAE driving license.
Skills & Experience:
  • Minimum six (6) years of experience in electronics/ELV maintenance or a similar environment.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in SCADA systems (RTUs, PLCs, MV-Switchgears) within a power utility company.
  • Airport experience is an added advantage.
Technical Skills:
  • Understanding of SCADA architecture, protocols, and communication networks.
  • Configuration and troubleshooting of RTUs, PLCs, and BCUs.
  • Working knowledge of Process Communication Units (PCU) and servers.

Electrical & Control Systems:

  • Experience with MV switchgear operations and protection relays.
  • Familiarity with energy meters, circuit breakers, and control wiring.
  • Condition assessment of electrical and electronic components.

Troubleshooting & Maintenance:

  • Component-level troubleshooting of electronic and electrical circuits.
  • Diagnosis of faults in RTUs, PLCs, and field instruments.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance of SCADA equipment.

Configuration & Programming:

  • Configuration and modification of SCADA circuits and logic controllers.
  • PLC programming (ladder logic, function block diagram, structured text, etc.).
  • Calibration and testing of field instruments (sensors, actuators, etc.).

Communication Protocols & Networking:

  • Configuration of network switches, routers, and firewalls for SCADA systems.
  • Cybersecurity best practices for SCADA and industrial control systems.

Testing & Measuring Instruments:

  • Proficiency in using multimeters, oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, and power quality analyzers.
  • Testing relay protection systems and energy meters.
Soft Skills:
  • Problem-Solving & Analytical Thinking: Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve SCADA system failures and field device issues.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Strong communication skills to collaborate with engineers, operators, and IT teams. Ability to explain technical issues in simple terms.
  • Attention to Detail: Ensuring proper configuration and compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Adaptability & Continuous Learning: Willingness to learn new SCADA technologies and software tools. Ability to adapt to different industrial automation environments.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Preparing detailed troubleshooting reports, configurations, and maintenance logs. Documenting circuit modifications and system updates.
