A leading maritime organisation in the United Arab Emirates is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the safe, reliable and cost-effective technical management of a fleet of bulk vessels.

You will lead and mentor Masters and Chief Engineers, ensuring vessels remain safe, compliant and commercially ready for operation, with a strong focus on maintenance planning, defect resolution and efficient dry-docking execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering or Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum Class I Motor Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency.
  • At least 2 years as Chief Engineer onboard bulk vessels.
  • Experience as Technical Superintendent preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of bulk vessel operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day technical performance of bulk vessels.
  • Provide guidance to Masters and Chief Engineers.
  • Monitor defects, maintenance, spares, and overall technical performance.

Job description

A leading maritime organisation is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the safe reliable and cost-effective technical management of a fleet of bulk vessels

The Role

The Technical Superintendent will be responsible for the overall technical performance maintenance safety compliance and operational readiness of assigned vessels You will provide technical leadership and guidance to Masters and Chief Engineers while ensuring vessels remain safe reliable compliant and commercially ready

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day technical performance of assigned bulk vessels
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Masters and Chief Engineers
  • Monitor vessel defects planned maintenance critical machinery spares consumables lubricants and overall technical performance
  • Ensure timely resolution of technical defects and minimise avoidable breakdowns and technical off-hire
  • Plan and oversee dry-dockings major repairs surveys and maintenance projects
  • Prepare repair and dry-docking specifications review quotations and coordinate approvals
  • Liaise with shipyards Class Flag State service engineers manufacturers suppliers and contractors
  • Monitor repair and dry-docking projects to ensure they are completed safely on schedule to specification and within budget
  • Ensure Class and statutory surveys are properly planned and deficiencies are closed within required timeframes
  • Prepare and monitor vessel technical budgets and maintain effective cost control
  • Review technical requisitions and procurement of spares stores lubricants chemicals gases and specialist services
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Class Flag State ISM ISO statutory and company requirements
  • Prepare vessels for PSC USCG Class and other inspections
  • Support audits incident investigations non-conformity investigations and corrective preventive actions
  • Conduct regular vessel visits and inspections to assess vessel condition machinery performance and maintenance standards
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability maintenance practices operational efficiency and cost effectiveness
  • Support technical projects and implement new technologies and industry best practices where appropriate
  • Monitor the competency and performance of senior shipboard personnel and identify training requirements
  • Participate in emergency response activities and provide technical support during breakdowns incidents and emergencies
  • Work closely with Marine Operations Procurement Crewing Safety amp Quality Finance Insurance and Claims teams
  • Maintain accurate technical reports vessel records budgets certificates maintenance records and management information
  • Ensure consistent application of technical standards and procedures across assigned vessels
Candidate Requirements
  • A Bachelor s degree in Marine Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • A minimum Class I Motor Chief Engineer Certificate of Competency
  • At least 2 years experience as Chief Engineer onboard bulk vessels mandatory
  • Previous experience as a Technical Superintendent
  • Strong knowledge and practical experience of bulk vessel operations and maintenance
  • Demonstrable knowledge of bulk vessel machinery cargo equipment and associated operational and maintenance challenges
  • Good understanding of hull structure integrity strengthening and improvement concepts applicable to bulk vessels
  • Strong knowledge of Class Flag State statutory and ISM ISO requirements
  • Experience with dry-docking repair specifications budgeting procurement and cost control
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent planning organisation and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with vessels shipyards Class suppliers manufacturers and internal stakeholders
  • Good IT skills and familiarity with vessel-management PMS systems and standard office applications
