About the Role
Digitiza is hiring a Technical Service Engineer – Radiology, PACS & VNA. You will provide technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting, implementation, and lifecycle management for radiology imaging systems, including PACS, VNA, RIS, modalities, diagnostic workstations, enterprise viewers, DICOM routers, image exchange platforms, and their supporting infrastructure.
You will keep radiology technology available, high-performing, and reliable across clinical environments. You will work closely with radiologists, radiographers, hospital IT, biomedical engineering, vendors, and network, infrastructure, and integration teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, maintain, upgrade, patch, and troubleshoot PACS, VNA, RIS, viewers, workstations, modalities, DICOM routers, and image exchange systems
- Monitor system availability, performance, connectivity, storage, services, queues, and scheduled tasks
- Support radiology workstations, diagnostic monitors, peripherals, printers, and scanners
- Perform preventive maintenance, health checks, and technical inspections
- Maintain records of assets, configurations, software versions, licences, and warranties
- Support planned downtime, disaster recovery testing, and business continuity activities
DICOM, HL7 & Connectivity
- Configure and troubleshoot DICOM communication across modalities, PACS, VNA, RIS, viewers, gateways, and third-party systems
- Support C-ECHO, C-STORE, C-FIND, C-MOVE, C-GET, MWL, MPPS, Storage Commitment, Query/Retrieve, DICOM routing, and DICOMweb
- Analyse DICOM headers, association logs, and network traces to resolve transfer, metadata, and routing issues
- Troubleshoot HL7 v2.x ADT, ORM, ORU, and SIU interfaces (PID, PV1, ORC, OBR, OBX)
- Resolve demographic, order, accession number, study status, and report synchronisation issues
Modality & Clinical Equipment Support
- Install, configure, and support CT, MRI, X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, and other imaging equipment
- Configure modality worklists, AE titles, IP addresses, ports, DICOM destinations, and routing
- Troubleshoot image acquisition, transfer, worklist, dose, protocol, and study-completion issues
- Coordinate with modality vendors on hardware faults, software issues, and replacement parts
- Support equipment moves, upgrades, decommissioning, acceptance testing, commissioning, and clinical release
PACS, VNA & Viewer Support
- Support image ingestion, archival, retrieval, routing, prefetching, reconciliation, and storage
- Troubleshoot missing, delayed, duplicate, incomplete, or incorrectly associated studies
- Resolve viewer access, performance, display, hanging protocol, prior-study, and worklist issues
- Assist with storage expansion, data lifecycle management, multi-site access, and legacy PACS consolidation
- Support non-radiology imaging such as cardiology, endoscopy, ophthalmology, pathology, dermatology, and orthopaedics
- Review technical requirements, and prepare installation plans, network details, firewall rules, and port specifications
- Install and configure servers, applications, workstations, modalities, DICOM nodes, and interfaces
- Perform connectivity, integration, and user acceptance testing, and clinical validation
- Support go-live, onsite deployment, cutover, and post-go-live stabilisation
- Provide technical training to support teams and clinical users
- PACS, VNA, RIS, viewer, and modality outages
- DICOM connectivity, image-transfer, and HL7 interface failures
- Worklist, accession, reconciliation, and duplicate-study problems
- Network, firewall, DNS, server, storage, database, and virtualisation incidents
- Performance, capacity, backup, archive, and disaster recovery issues
You will use logs, DICOM and HL7 analysis, network traces, database queries, and monitoring tools to find root causes, apply fixes, and prevent recurring problems.
Preventive Maintenance & Lifecycle Management
- Review logs, service status, storage, backups, certificates, licences, and alerts
- Coordinate upgrades, security patches, firmware updates, and hardware replacements
- Test and document changes in line with change-management procedures
- Maintain lifecycle plans for modalities, workstations, servers, storage, and applications
- Support decommissioning, data retention, and secure disposal
Migration, Validation & Documentation
- Support PACS, VNA, RIS, modality, and workstation migrations
- Validate metadata, image counts, and study/series/instance integrity, and reconcile migrated data
- Maintain asset inventories, network diagrams, DICOM node lists, configuration records, test scripts, maintenance logs, SOPs, RCA reports, and troubleshooting guides
- Work with radiologists, radiographers, radiology managers, hospital IT, biomedical engineering, vendors, and project teams
- Translate clinical needs into practical technical solutions, and explain technical issues clearly to non-technical users
Technical Skills
- Radiology systems: PACS, VNA, RIS, HIS/EMR, enterprise viewers, diagnostic workstations, reporting systems, DICOM routers and gateways
- Standards: DICOM, MWL, MPPS, Query/Retrieve, Storage Commitment, DICOMweb (WADO-RS, QIDO-RS, STOW-RS), HL7 v2.x, FHIR, REST APIs, JSON, XML, SOAP
- Tools: DICOM/HL7 analysers, packet capture, application and server logs, interface engines, monitoring and remote-support tools
- ITSM: incident, problem, change, and asset management
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Healthcare IT, Computer Science, IT, Medical Informatics, Electronics Engineering, or a related field
- Minimum 3–5 years supporting radiology systems, healthcare technology, clinical applications, or biomedical equipment
- 5–8+ years with PACS, VNA, RIS, DICOM, HL7, modalities, and hospital IT infrastructure preferred
- Hands-on experience with onsite support, installations, modality connectivity, preventive maintenance, and vendor coordination is highly desirable
- Multi-site hospital or enterprise imaging experience is an advantage
- Vendor certifications in PACS, RIS, VNA, DICOM, modalities, or networking are advantageous
- Strong technical knowledge of radiology systems, modalities, and healthcare infrastructure
- Structured troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
- Ability to work safely and effectively in clinical environments
- Calm under pressure, with strong prioritisation skills
- Clear communication with clinical, technical, and vendor stakeholders
- Strong customer-service orientation
- Willingness to provide onsite, after-hours, on-call, and go-live support
