Job Purpose:

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is seeking a motivated Product Manager to lead the development of AI-based products, collaborating with project owners, designers, and engineers to build innovative ML/DL platforms. The role will focus on usability, performance, and integrating cutting-edge research, while managing product design, timelines, and milestones. Responsibilities include driving AI project deployment, coordinating virtual teams, and engaging with stakeholders to align commercial and academic goals. You will also oversee implementation, conduct trial validations, and maintain documentation. The Product Manager should have experience in AI innovation and thrive in a collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Requirements Management:

  • Define, gather, and document user requirements from faculty, researchers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with research teams to validate system requirements and implementation plans.


Product Design Management:

  • Handle the product design process for AI projects and their subprojects, ensuring seamless coordination among virtual project teams to deliver usable and effective products.
  • Track project development status at product perspective, ensuring exact delivery of AI-based applications and tools.
  • Work closely with developers to ensure that product and technical specifications are clearly defined and well matched.


Use Case Definition and Test Operation:

  • Support AI solution product design by analyzing and defining detailed use cases after high-level goals are established, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Define user test cases and facilitate user testing and feedback loops to improve system functionality.


Stakeholder Communication:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, balancing commercial and academic value, while mentoring engineers to translate technical skills into user-friendly interfaces.
  • Ensure delivery of status and test report for stakeholder decision and project execution.


Requirement Negotiation:

  • Collaborate with external customers to refine requirements, establish clear project scopes, and align deliverables with contractual targets.


Implementation Oversight:

  • Monitor the implementation of AI solutions, conduct trial validations, and ensure usability based on predefined criteria.


Documentation and Communication:

  • Act as a key point of contact between engineers, researchers, and business teams.
  • Maintain detailed and up-to-date technical documentation covering UI, architecture, APIs, and system workflows.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with industry standards and internal compliance guidelines.
  • Manage version control and updates for all documentation, ensuring traceability.
  • Maintain comprehensive project documentation on the MBZUAI SharePoint portal and facilitate communication through e-meetings, Slack discussions, and email threads.


Other Duties:

  • Perform all other duties as reasonably directed by the line manager that are commensurate with these functional objectives.


Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Technical Writing, Human- Computer Interaction or related fields.
  • Postgraduate degrees will be preferred.


Professional Experience:

Essential

  • 3+ years in technical product management, business analysis, or documentation roles.
  • Strong background in creative product design, technical writing, UI/UX documentation, and API documentation.
  • Experience working with AI-based systems, cloud platforms, and software development teams.
  • Familiarity with JIRA, Confluence, or other project management tools.


Preferred

  • 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Experience in the full life cycle of development in at least one AI based product.
  • Experience in higher education or research institutions.
  • Ability to develop and manage relationships with industry and academic partners to enhance MBZUAI's research initiatives.
  • Strong English proficiency, with fluency in additional languages as a plus.
