Role Context

The EAL Teacher plays a focused role in helping students who use English as an additional language access the curriculum with greater confidence and independence. Effective language support can influence achievement across every subject, making accurate assessment, targeted instruction and close collaboration with classroom teachers central to this position. At Mamoura British Academy, the teacher will use student attainment information to identify language barriers and establish appropriate learning targets. Instruction should develop practical academic English while ensuring students remain challenged within their age-appropriate curriculum. The role also requires an inclusive approach to students with overlapping learning profiles, including SEN, students of determination and gifted and talented learners. Progress will be supported through differentiated planning, regular assessment and coordination with teachers, families and specialist professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver structured EAL teaching that develops students ' English language proficiency.
  • Establish clear learning objectives based on prior attainment and individual language needs.
  • Create an inclusive classroom climate that encourages multilingual students to participate confidently.
  • Identify EAL learners requiring targeted language intervention or additional classroom support.
  • Differentiated lessons for EAL, SEN, students of determination and gifted and talented learners.
  • Develop students ' academic vocabulary, reading, writing, speaking and listening capabilities.
  • Provide learning activities with appropriate pace, challenge and progression.
  • Use assessment for learning to evaluate language development and adjust instruction.
  • Analyze performance data and key indicators to identify gaps and establish individual progress targets.
  • Apply assessment evidence when designing differentiated lessons and intervention strategies.
  • Use ICT and appropriate digital resources to enhance language acquisition and student engagement.
  • Support students in developing the English skills needed to access learning across curriculum subjects.
  • Assess achievement against planned learning objectives and refine teaching accordingly.
  • Mark student work regularly and provide constructive feedback in accordance with school policy.
  • Maintain systematic and accurate records of attainment, language development and academic progress.
  • Complete assessments required by the department, school or relevant examination procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with subject and classroom teachers to improve curriculum accessibility for EAL learners.
  • Contribute to curriculum plans, schemes of work and resources that reflect multilingual learning needs.
  • Share practical differentiation strategies with colleagues supporting EAL students.
  • Liaise with speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and educational psychologists where specialist support is required.
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the school 's Behaviour for Learning Policy.
  • Promote punctuality, responsible behaviour and consistently high standards of classwork and homework.
  • Prepare informative progress reports for parents and carers.
  • Communicate clearly with families regarding student achievement, language development and areas requiring support.
  • Attend parent and student events and contribute to wider school activities.
  • Participate actively in continuing professional development and subject improvement.
  • Maintain safeguarding responsibilities and place student wellbeing at the centre of professional practice.
  • Complete additional educational responsibilities assigned by the Senior Leadership Team.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a bachelor 's degree in Education or a bachelor 's degree in a relevant subject supported by a PGCE or equivalent recognised teaching qualification. Previous teaching experience within the English National Curriculum is required, together with proven success teaching students across an appropriate age and ability range. Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum will enable the teacher to connect language intervention directly with classroom learning expectations. The successful candidate should understand how English proficiency affects curriculum access and be capable of differentiating instruction without reducing academic challenge. Experience assessing multilingual learners and using attainment data to design targeted support will be valuable. Candidates should be resilient, organized and confident solving classroom and learning challenges under pressure. Experience gained across more than one international school is desirable, particularly where the student population includes varied linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
