Job summary

Black & Grey HR is seeking a Survey Base Engineer to join our client's offshore survey support team on a permanent basis. Based at the client's shore facility, you will manage and maintain survey equipment, ensure readiness, and deploy assets supporting offshore operations with strict quality standards.

You will liaise between shore base, survey engineering, vessel crews, and project teams, coordinating calibration, maintenance, and mobilisations while keeping accurate records.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in Hydrographic Survey, Geomatics, Marine Technology, Electronics or related engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience managing survey equipment and assets within offshore survey, hydrographic, marine, or subsea operations.
  • Strong knowledge of MBES, USBL, GNSS, MRU, and survey sensors.
  • Experience coordinating mobilisation, demobilisation, calibration, maintenance, repairs, and inventory management.
  • Good understanding of offshore survey operations, logistics coordination, and equipment lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all survey equipment and assets at the shore base, including receipt, storage, inspection, maintenance scheduling, and asset preservation.
  • Coordinate calibration, certification, and preventive maintenance activities through AMC processes.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventory, asset registers, calibration records, and maintenance history.
  • Monitor stock levels of survey consumables, spare parts, and accessories, ensuring readiness.
  • Plan, prepare, and coordinate mobilisation packs for offshore vessels and project deployments.
  • Oversee demobilisation process, including inspection, testing, servicing, and reintegration of equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment packaging, shipping, and logistics with stores and logistics teams.
  • Ensure mobilisation/demobilisation activities align with schedules and procedures.
  • Act as liaison between shore base, survey engineering, vessel crews, and project teams.
  • Coordinate repairs, fault diagnosis, calibration, and certification with Survey Engineering and external providers.
  • Support mobilisation planning by resolving technical equipment issues and ensuring systems are operational.
  • Assist with onboarding of survey personnel on equipment handling and care standards.

Black & Grey HR is seeking a Survey Base Engineer to join our client's offshore survey support team on a permanent basis. Based at the client's shore facility, you will be responsible for the management, maintenance, readiness, and deployment of survey equipment and assets supporting offshore survey operations. You will act as the primary technical interface between the shore base and survey project teams, ensuring all survey systems are mobilised, maintained, and returned in accordance with operational and quality requirements.

This is a permanent position offering the opportunity to support multiple offshore survey campaigns through effective equipment management, mobilisation planning, asset control, and technical coordination with survey engineering, logistics, and vessel teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all survey equipment and assets at the shore base, including receipt, storage, inspection, maintenance scheduling, and asset preservation.
  • Coordinate calibration, certification, and preventative maintenance activities through approved Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) processes.
  • Maintain accurate equipment inventory, asset registers, calibration records, and maintenance history.
  • Monitor stock levels of survey consumables, spare parts, and accessories, ensuring operational readiness at all times.
  • Plan, prepare, and coordinate survey equipment mobilisation packs for offshore vessels and project deployments, ensuring complete readiness before departure.
  • Oversee the demobilisation process, including inspection, testing, servicing, and reintegration of equipment returning from offshore projects.
  • Coordinate equipment packaging, shipping, transportation, and logistics requirements in collaboration with stores and logistics teams.
  • Ensure mobilisation and demobilisation activities are completed in accordance with project schedules and company procedures.
  • Act as the primary technical liaison between the shore base, survey engineering team, vessel crews, and project teams on survey equipment requirements.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs, fault diagnosis, calibration, and certification with Survey Engineering personnel and external service providers.
  • Support mobilisation planning by resolving technical equipment issues and ensuring all survey systems are fully operational prior to deployment.
  • Assist with onboarding and familiarisation of survey personnel on equipment handling, storage, maintenance, and care standards.
Requirements
  • Degree or Diploma in Hydrographic Survey, Geomatics, Marine Technology, Electronics, or a related Engineering discipline.
  • Proven experience managing survey equipment and assets within offshore survey, hydrographic, marine, or subsea operations.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Multibeam Echo Sounders (MBES), USBL positioning systems, GNSS equipment, Motion Reference Units (MRU), and associated survey sensors.
  • Experience coordinating equipment mobilisation, demobilisation, calibration, preventive maintenance, repairs, and inventory management.
  • Good understanding of offshore survey operations, logistics coordination, and equipment lifecycle management.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple equipment mobilisation schedules simultaneously.
  • Excellent technical troubleshooting, planning, and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • High attention to detail in maintaining asset records, calibration status, equipment documentation, and inventory accuracy.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively with survey engineers, offshore personnel, logistics teams, and equipment vendors.
  • Proficient in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
Certifications
  • IHO/FIG Category A or Category B Hydrographic Survey qualification is preferred.
  • Valid BOSIET or HUET certification is advantageous.
  • Equipment manufacturer certifications for offshore survey systems are considered an added advantage.
