Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Supply Chain Manager for our gold mining project based in Sudan. This role is pivotal in organizing local procurement, liaising with government bodies, overseeing the customs clearance process, and ensuring the timely and efficient delivery of goods to the mine. Additionally, this position requires close collaboration with the mine's production departments to supply materials and services by engaging local contractors. The position is based in our Port Sudan office, operating on a FIFO basis with a 60 days on/30 days off rotation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and manage the local procurement strategy to ensure the acquisition of goods and services is both timely and cost-effective.
  2. Build and maintain strong relationships with government bodies and agencies to support the smooth operation of mining activities.
  3. Oversee the customs clearance process, adhering to Sudanese and international regulations.
  4. Coordinate logistics and transportation of goods from purchase to the mining site, ensuring deliveries are safe and punctual.
  5. Work closely with project management and other key stakeholders to forecast supply needs and manage inventory effectively.
  6. Collaborate closely with the mine's production departments to ensure a steady supply of materials and services, leveraging local contractors for additional support.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Proven experience in supply chain management, ideally within the mining sector or similar heavy industries.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of customs regulations, import/export procedures, and local procurement practices in environments similar to Sudan.
  3. Exceptional negotiation and communication skills, with proficiency in liaising with government officials and suppliers.
  4. Fluency in English and Russian is required; knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a remote location, within a multicultural team, and under challenging conditions.
  6. Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CSCP, CSCM) are considered an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Willingness to operate on a FIFO basis with a 60/30 rotation.
  2. Strong problem-solving capabilities and the flexibility to adapt to rapidly changing situations.
  3. A commitment to maintaining ethical business practices, with a strong awareness of safety and environmental standards.

Candidates with a background in supply chain operations and a proven track record of engaging with local contractors for material and service provision in challenging environments are highly encouraged to apply. The role requires the ability to operate in a challenging and dynamic environment, characterized by complex regulatory frameworks, logistical constraints, and evolving geopolitical and security conditions. Candidates must demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and strong problem-solving skills to ensure uninterrupted supply chain operations in a remote and resource-limited setting.
