Job description

Scope of work (JOB PURPOSE)

The role entails supporting the engineering shifts within the water park maintenance department by managing the statutory inspections of all attractions, associated equipment’s and plant rooms through a planned preventative maintenance approach. The primary focus is to maximize water features, slides and equipment availability and ensure safety in operation. This requires strong leadership skills to effectively plan, prepare, and oversee the engineering team’s activities throughout the operational season.

Main Responsibilities

  • To work as an operational engineer carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance and water quality testing, water features and slides start up procedures.
  • To lead a team of engineering personnel during park operation to maintain water quality and provide an effective breakdown service that will facilitate excellent water features and slides availability and safety for our guests and staff.
  • To lead teams of engineering personnel to administer the PPM and safety checks in line with company procedures.
  • To ensure that PPM documentation is completed in a timely manner in line with department procedures.
  • To manage unplanned maintenance, planned preventative maintenance, water quality testing, water features and slides start up procedures and safety checks.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of all water features in the park.
  • During the low season period, the role involves carrying out Annual Shutdown and Annual Maintenance programmed to facilitate PPM and a thorough annual inspection of all attractions by an external body, all in order to obtain a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) to the agreed deadlines.
  • To have an active role in the development of the annual shut down plan.
  • To ensure written documentation relating to pre-opening checks and maintenance works are accurate to reflect changes in procedure.
  • To maintain and keep in good condition of the tools provided to enable professional and competent completion of maintenance tasks.

  • To have input in devising and implementing strategies for the efficient operation and management of the engineering team to fault find and administer route cause remedial work.
  • To assist the engineering management team with all aspects of the daily running of the engineering department. All with the aim of maximizing water features, slides and equipment availability and safety in operation and fulfil the department’s KPI’s, objectives and function.
  • To develop professional and considerate relationships with both other departments and external suppliers and consultants.
  • To assist with the auditing of the department to ensure that planned preventative maintenance and safety checks are carried out as per the recommendations of the slide manufacturer and in accordance with the EN 13814 and EIAC requirements.
  • To assist the engineering management team to ensure compliance with EN13814scheme/ EIAC and all other third parties.
  • To produce risk assessments as appropriate and as necessary.
  • To assist with the administration of weekly and monthly work rosters, for department members, to ensure correct levels are maintained against operational demand.
  • To represent the engineering department at internal park meetings.
  • To communicate relevant information between shift changes.
  • To undertake additional responsibility as directed by the department management team following appropriate instruction/training.

Health & Safety

Managers/Supervisors are responsible for all aspects of Health, Safety & Security within their department, in line with the Group Policy (HS001). They must ensure that risk assessments have been carried out, that safe working procedures are in place for all work activities and that all employees under their management are aware of the Group Health, Safety and Security Policy and their obligations under it. They must ensure that safe working practices are monitored, and that risk assessments and procedures are reviewed regularly. Where incidents do occur, they must ensure that they are investigated appropriately and that where necessary, corrective action is taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated

Qualifications, Experience, & Skills

Required Qualifications:

  • Qualified to at least C&G level 3, or approved equivalent, in either mechanical or electrical engineering supplemented by at least 3 years’ experience of working in ideally a water park and theme park environment, or other comparable water quality /slide maintenance operations
  • Ideally at least 2 years’ experience at a supervisory or management level.

Job-Specific Skills:

  • Ideally a Full working knowledge of the HSG 175, EN 13814 and EIAC requirements.
  • A full working knowledge of appropriate engineering related statutory requirements e.g. certification and safe use of lifting equipment, C.O.S.H.H., safe use and written schemes of pressure vessels, general responsibilities for the maintenance of a Safe Working Environment under the Health & Safety at Work Act etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of Heat exchangers, Water filtration systems in Water Park, Plumbing and water chemistry.
  • Ability to read blueprints and control drawings.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions, heights, and confined spaces, and lift heavy equipment as required.
  • Problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines.
