Job Description

  • STATEMENT OF FUNCTIONS (PRIMARY REASON / OBJECTIVE OF JOB EXISTENCE)

Supervises activities on the operation of desalination and power generation units during assigned shift to ensure constant power and water production. Ensures that all outstanding activities from the previous shift are carried over smoothly and that all maintenance and repair requirements are documented for follow-up.

  • Work Performed:
  • Gives work directions to Desalination & Generation Operators to ensure smooth functioning and error-free work flow relating to desalination & generation activities.

Provides technical advice, as required.

  • Checks log book, log reports, charts and event reports to identify activities for the day, as instructed by the Engineer. Updates logbook with complaints and daily activities for the next shift / Engineers' reference and follow up.
  • Attends to emergencies such as operation disturbance that could result in plant tripping. Isolates the fault to avoid blockage and resolves fault if possible, to resume functioning. Reports faults to Head of Operations for resolution.
  • Carries out inspection of both running and standby desalination plants and power generation sets and takes necessary actions to correct abnormalities and instrument problems and to ensure constant functionality and availability.
  • Ensures that all work carried out by employees are within set safety policies, procedures and prepardl site safety requirements.
  • Attends to major maintenance and inspection to ensure compliance with standards and safety instructions.
  • Performs other similar or related duties as and when assigned by Engineer.
  • Determination and reporting on plant consumption and ensure the availability of consumables.
  • Work Relations & Contacts:

3.1 Has a daily contact with the engineers and head of operation to receive work directions, discuss issues and report defects.

3.2 Has a regular contact with subordinate staff to give work directions, resolve issues.

  • Accountability For Actions & Impacts:

4.1 Accountable for constant running of desalination plants and power generation, covering coordinating the resolution of all problems and emergencies, ensuring minimal interruption.

4.2 Works according to established procedures and specialized technical standards.

4.3 Supervisor keeps advised of work progress and spot-checks completed work.

4.4 Reports to: Operation Senior Engineer.

  • Physical Exerted:

50% of work time is spent in the control room and 50% on site.

  • Job Surroundings:

50% of work time is spent in non air-conditioned surroundings with exposure to high temperatures, heat, fumes, dirt, dust, noise and chemical odors.

  • Minimum Job Know-How Requirements:
  • Secondary Education + Technical Training or Technical Education in relevant field.
  • 6 years experience in desalination plants.
