Job Description
The StructuralDesign Engineer will be responsible for designing, planning, and overseeingvarious construction projects that involve structural components. This roleinvolves applying principles of structural engineering and architectural designto ensure that structures are safe, sustainable, and capable of withstandingthe elements and stresses they will encounter. The ideal candidate will have astrong foundation in the principles of structural engineering, experience withdesign software, and a commitment to staying current with industry trends andtechnologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and Analysis:Develop detailed structural designs for variousprojects, including commercial, residential, and industrial buildings. Utilizesoftware such as AutoCAD, Revit, and structural analysis programs to create andsimulate structural models.
- Project Planning:Workclosely with architects, construction managers, and other engineers todetermine the specifications of a project. Plan the layout of structures,considering physical constraints and regulatory requirements.
- Material Selection:Selectappropriate construction materials for the structures, considering factors suchas strength, durability, and cost. Ensure materials comply with industrystandards and environmental regulations.
- Compliance and Safety:Ensure all designs and architectural plans meetbuilding codes, local ordinances, and safety standards. Stay updated with thelatest building regulations and codes.
- Collaboration:Coordinatewith other engineering disciplines and architects to integrate structuraldesigns with electrical, mechanical, and civil engineering elements ofprojects.
- Documentation:Preparereports, design documents, and structural analysis findings for internal reviewand submission to regulatory bodies. Maintain accurate project documentationand records.
- Site Visits:Conductsite visits to monitor the progress of construction projects, ensuring that thework conforms to the design specifications and safety standards.
- Problem-Solving:Addressdesign and engineering issues that arise during the construction process.Provide technical guidance and propose modifications as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or StructuralEngineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Proficiency in design and analysis software such as AutoCAD,Revit, SAP2000, ETABS, or similar.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, buildingmaterials, and legal regulations.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizationalskills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and communicatecomplex ideas clearly.
- Commitment to continuing education and staying informed ofnew technologies and regulations in the field of structural engineering.
