Purpose and Objectives for the Role

Following a change in ownership amid uncertain market conditions, Big Ticket can now look forward beyond the next few months, and into the next few years. The Strategy Development Manager will play the principal dedicated and hands-on role facilitating Big Ticket to be ‘well set’ for the next few years.

It will lead and organize the business to create and gain approval of Strategic and Annual Business Plans, the curation and development of an Initiative Pipeline, and direct management of some Initiatives where required. The role will put in place and manage the processes around the above, as well as bringing to bear the necessary problem-solving and inspiration to create innovative strategies and proposals. The scope covers all the activities of the business, but with a focus on driving consumer growth in a regulated context.

Overall Responsibilities

  1. For a small portfolio of material growth/high complexity/risk strategic initiatives, to shape them from inception through to business case approval and onboarding for delivery (working dotted line into business sponsors).
  2. To lead and organize the business to conduct strategy reviews and develop/define and agree 3-year strategic plans.
  3. To lead and organize the business to develop/define and agree for Annual Business plans, including budgets, targets, milestones.
  4. To develop and manage the business level coordination of the pipeline of initiatives that will deliver strategy & plans, covering both how the business will grow, and the necessary enablers.
  5. To define standards and methodologies for Strategy, ABP and Initiative Development, and facilitate effective governance and ways of working for these activities.
  6. To support the Commercial Director and the wider Executive team to achieve timely board approvals for the above, and to onboard the wider business to them once approved.
  7. To support the transformation team/manager to ensure a delivery plan is in place for ABP’s.
  8. Working with Insight, Marketing and Finance teams, ensure that Strategy activity is consumer insight and data-driven in a coherent manner with how the performance of the business is managed in the day-to-day operation of the business (wherever relevant).
Skills Required

  1. Demonstrable experience of facilitating organisations to create strategy reviews; including setting out the brief, undertaking analysis, drawing out implications and developing solutions to challenges and opportunities. This could be via consulting projects, or as part of an in-house team.
  2. Has experience of creating and driving growth plans and agendas in business to consumer (B2C) organisations/markets, particularly those with social media and digital marketing biases in how they engage consumers and generate growth.
  3. Broad appreciation at a strategic level of consumer insight, marketing comms, brand management, CRM & channel management, innovation and change in the B2C context.
  4. Proven ability to drive projects from inception to business case, and how to apply data robustly throughout the process.
  5. Au fait with the range of tools and techniques of insight and testing to drive decision-making in a B2C retail and digital channel context and able to lead experts to apply them to problem solving, strategy and plan formulation and projects.
  6. Adept at structured problem solving and assumption creation and using them to drive scope and approaches for strategic initiative development.
  7. Advanced communication skills, especially in the speedy creation of simple, compelling/persuasive and structured supporting documents and presentations.
  8. Desirable to be able to independently marshal large data sets into meaningful insight driving outputs, and at minimum being effective at briefing analysts to do so.
  9. Experience of managing and aligning stakeholders at the Executive level, understanding their needs, building trust, and utilizing their time effectively. Able to bring about consensus/alignment between Exec and facilitate effective ways of working.
  10. Able to employ an approach to meet the organization ‘where it is at’ and build capability over time in the execution of the role’s responsibilities.
  11. Financially literate, with a commercial orientation. Able to direct planning processes and add value to the creation of high standard FP&A deliverables.
  12. Past experience of developing a Corporate Responsibility Strategy an advantage.
Qualifications Required

  1. Evidence of learning & development in the area of the responsibilities – Innovation methodologies, Strategic Planning, Strategic Marketing etc.
  2. MBA desirable.
