Job description

The Heart Vascular and Thoracic Institute at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is welcoming applications for a consultant position in the Heart failure, cardiac transplant, and mechanical circulatory assist section. The role involves integrating into a high-functioning multidisciplinary heart failure team that is the only program providing cardiothoracic transplantation and LVAD insertion in the United Arab Emirates. We seek a passionate early to mid-career physician with exceptional clinical skills and a strong background in independent academic work to contribute to the program's development nationally, regionally, and internationally. The role includes additional teaching responsibilities at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with potential for advancement to section, department, and institutional leadership positions.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Physician responsibilities:
  • Monitor and provide care to patients at CCAD within the Heart, Vascular, and Thoracic Institute.
  • Prescribe or administer medication, therapy, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Provide specific treatments and/or perform operations to treat patient medical conditions.
  • Evaluate patients and record notes about their condition for treatment records and referrals.
  • Liaise with other medical and non-medical staff at CCAD to ensure quality patient treatment.
  • Supply, provide, and manage care in a culturally appropriate and sensitive manner.
  • Adhere to clinical privileges, policies, and procedures of the Medical Staff.
Leadership responsibilities:
  • Assist in developing a strategic plan for the heart failure/cardiac transplantation section.
  • Create a vision and support section members in achieving excellence in patient care, education, and research.
  • Recommend and monitor resources such as space, technology, staff, and equipment needed by the section.
  • Evaluate the cost-effectiveness of practices and recommend methods for optimal resource utilization.
Operational responsibilities:
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of patient care within the section.
  • Ensure the provision of clinical outcomes data and performance metrics.
  • Identify opportunities for performance improvement and work towards enhancing standards.
Human Resources Management responsibilities:
  • Conduct annual professional reviews for staff.
  • Ensure high-quality education and research programs.
Experience requirements:
  • At least four (4) years of post-qualification experience for physicians from Tier 1 countries.
  • Valid license/registration to practice in the home country or last country of employment.
  • Ability to effectively manage a healthcare team.
  • Effective communication skills in English.
Education requirements:

MD, MBBS, MBChB, or DO (specialization from recognized bodies such as the American Board or Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada) or equivalent, with completion of specialty qualification as per recognized standards.
