Job Purpose
The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

Unit-Specific Job Roles

  • Demonstrates competence with the care and assessment of patients in sepsis and septic shock, including the prevention of complications.
  • Implements the sepsis pathway with the multidisciplinary team and demonstrates knowledge in the nurses role within this pathway.
  • Demonstrates knowledge on noninvasive hemodynamic monitoring.
  • Demonstrates knowledge on noninvasive ventilation.
  • Demonstrates knowledge on the medications indications, contra-indications, effect and side effects.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence with the care and management of patients that are deteriorating and the prevention of complications.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence of the prevention of Central Line Associated Blood Stream Infections (CLABSI) and is consistently compliant with CLABSI bundles
  • Demonstrates knowledge and competence of the prevention of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI) and is consistently compliant with CAUTI bundles
  • Monitors and records symptoms and changes in patients conditions and sharing information with the physician (MRP).
  • Monitors the HDU patients for changes in status and indications of conditions such as sepsis or shock and implements appropriate escalation and interventions.
  • Administering intravenous fluids and medications as per Physicians order.
  • Monitor patients fluid intake and output to detect emerging problems such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances.
  • Monitors all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
