Job description

Job Purpose

The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. They will understand, support, and promote the mission, vision, and values of SSMC; provide age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body; and adhere to the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

Responsibilities
  1. Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues, including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs. Uses evidence-based assessment techniques, validates diagnoses with patients, families, and healthcare team, and documents findings.
  2. Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes, develops and modifies care plans involving patients, families, and healthcare teams, and documents measurable goals using standardized language.
  3. Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implements care plans, performs treatments, administers medications, documents care, and communicates across care levels, demonstrating resource awareness and cost-effectiveness.
  4. Health Teaching and Promotion: Uses appropriate teaching strategies, promotes healthy lifestyles, and documents health education efforts.
  5. Evaluation: Evaluates patient progress, revises care plans based on ongoing assessments, and ensures comprehensive handovers and communication with healthcare teams.
  6. Evidence-based Practice and Research: Incorporates current evidence and participates in research and quality improvement activities.
  7. Leadership: Demonstrates leadership, supervises staff, and participates in organizational decision-making to improve nursing practice and outcomes.

  • Maintains professional and ethical standards, advocates for patients, questions practices for safety, and discloses concerns per policy.
  • Evaluates own practice, utilizes resources, promotes safety, and mentors colleagues.
  • Responds effectively to emergencies, promotes environmental health, and commits to continuous learning.
Qualifications

Experience: Required: Minimum 2 years clinical experience post-qualification in appropriate setting (waived for UAE nursing college graduates after internship).
Desired: N/A

Educational Qualification: Required: Bachelor degree in nursing or a 2-year nursing degree with registration as a Registered Nurse from specified countries, valid license, and BLS certification.
Desired: ACLS, PALS relevant to specialty area.
