Overview
The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.
Responsibilities
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues. Assesses comprehensive data including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs; interprets assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues; uses evidence-based assessment techniques and instruments; validates the diagnosis with patient, family and healthcare team; prioritizes data based on the patient27s condition and potential risks; documents data in compliance with guidelines.
- Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes and develops a plan addressing health promotion, restoration and maintenance; involves patient, family and healthcare team in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care; applies evidence-based nursing practices; modifies the plan according to ongoing assessment; documents measurable outcomes using standardized terminology.
- Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implement the plan of care in partnership with patient, family and healthcare team using evidence-based interventions; perform treatments and procedures per guidelines; administer medications per policies; ensure all components of the plan are documented in the health record; communicate information across care settings; work within cost-effective resource practices.
- Health Teaching and Health Promotion: Utilize teaching strategies appropriate to the patient27s condition and learning needs; support patients and families in developing skills for healthy lifestyles and self-management; seek feedback on teaching effectiveness (including teach-back); document health education in the patient health record.
- Evaluation: Evaluate progress toward outcomes; assess patient/family understanding and response to the plan of care; revise diagnoses, outcomes and plan of care as needed; involve patient, family and healthcare team in evaluation; provide comprehensive handover/report to ensure patient safety; communicate changes in condition and plan of care.
- Evidence-based Practice and Research: Integrate evidence and research findings into practice; use current evidence-based knowledge to guide practice; participate in evidence-based and research activities appropriate to role; share findings with the healthcare team; participate in performance improvement projects to evaluate and improve practice.
- Leadership: Demonstrate leadership in practice, promote a positive, team-based, organized, and safe work environment; coordinate and supervise delegated activities; demonstrate critical thinking in priority setting and decision making; pursue leadership opportunities; participate in shared decision-making to improve nursing practice, performance and outcomes; supervise practical nurses, junior staff and student nurses to ensure safe care.
- Accountabilities: Apply professional codes of ethics; maintain professional nurse-patient relationship and advocate for patients; speak up for safety and quality improvement; disclose observed illegal or incompetent practices per policy; evaluate own practice against standards; consider factors of effectiveness, cost, environmental health and impact on practice; utilize current standards of care and e-resources; promote patient safety and environmental health; mentor team members and participate in emergency response per policy.
Qualifications
Experience
- Required: at least 2 years of clinical experience post-qualification in an appropriate setting (note: experience requirement waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities after internship).
Educational Qualification: Required
- Bachelor degree in nursing OR a degree in Nursing (minimum two-year course) and Registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia; and valid/current national license; and BLS.
Desirable:
- ACLS, PALS relevant to area of specialty
