Job Purpose

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Staff Nurse is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of patients and families. They will understand, support, and promote the mission, vision, and values of SSMC, providing age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnoses/issues, including physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs. Uses evidence-based assessment techniques, validates diagnoses with patients, families, and healthcare team, prioritizes data, and documents in compliance with guidelines.
  2. Planning and Outcomes Identification: Identifies expected outcomes, develops individualized care plans involving patients, families, and healthcare teams, applies evidence-based practices, and documents measurable goals.
  3. Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implements care plans timely, performs treatments per guidelines, administers medications, documents all care components, communicates across care levels, and demonstrates resource management.
  4. Health Teaching and Promotion: Uses appropriate teaching strategies, promotes healthy lifestyles, seeks feedback, and documents health education components.
  5. Evaluation: Assesses progress, revises care plans based on ongoing assessments, involves patients and families, provides clinical handovers, and documents updates.
  6. Evidence-based Practice and Research: Incorporates current evidence into practice, participates in research activities, shares findings, and engages in quality improvement projects.
  7. Leadership: Demonstrates leadership, functions as a role model, coordinates activities, exhibits critical thinking, seeks leadership opportunities, and supervises junior staff and students.

Accountabilities

  • Maintains professional and ethical standards, advocates for patients, questions practices for safety, reports misconduct, and evaluates own practice.
  • Utilizes resources effectively, navigates electronic systems, promotes safety and environmental health, and mentors colleagues.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies per organizational policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years post-qualification clinical experience in an appropriate setting (waived for UAE nursing college graduates after internship).

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor degree in nursing or a 2-year nursing degree with registration as a Registered Nurse from recognized countries (Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia) and a valid license.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Desired:

  • ACLS, PALS relevant to specialty area.
