Job Purpose

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Staff Nurse is accountable for coordinating nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care. They support professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet patient and family needs. The Staff Nurse understands, supports, and promotes the mission, vision, and values of SSMC, providing age-appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. They adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

Responsibilities

  1. Assessment and Diagnosis: Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnoses/issues, using evidence-based techniques, and documents findings in compliance with guidelines.
  2. Planning and Outcomes Identification: Develops individualized care plans involving patients, families, and healthcare teams, applying evidence-based practices, and modifies plans based on ongoing assessments.
  3. Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery: Implements care plans, performs treatments, administers medications, documents care, and communicates across care levels, demonstrating resource awareness and cost-effectiveness.
  4. Health Teaching and Promotion: Uses appropriate teaching strategies, supports health promotion, gathers feedback, and documents education components.
  5. Evaluation: Assesses progress, revises care plans as needed, involves patients and families, and ensures safety through clinical handovers and updates.
  6. Evidence-based Practice and Research: Incorporates current research into practice, participates in research activities, and shares findings with colleagues.
  7. Leadership: Demonstrates leadership, coordinates activities, supervises staff, and actively participates in organizational decisions to improve practice and outcomes.

Accountabilities

  • Maintains professional and ethical standards, advocates for patients, questions practices for safety, and discloses concerns as per policies.
  • Evaluates own practice, considers environmental and organizational factors, and utilizes current resources and electronic tools.
  • Promotes a safe, environmentally conscious practice environment, mentors colleagues, and responds to emergencies according to policies.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum 2 years of clinical experience post-qualification in an appropriate setting (waived for UAE nursing college graduates after internship).

Educational Qualification:

  • Bachelor degree in nursing or a degree with a minimum two-year duration, registered as a Nurse in Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia, with a current license, and BLS certification.

Desired qualifications include ACLS and PALS relevant to the specialty area.
