Overview

Amazon opened its virtual doors in 1995 and strives to be the world’s most customer-centric company where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online.

The successful candidate for this position will be a key part of the Engineering Team and will be responsible for project and construction management of industrial development including new builds, retrofits, expansions and program initiatives from site selection through contract execution. Construction Managers are responsible for construction of new Fulfillment Centers (FCs), Sortation Centers (SCs), Delivery Stations (DSs) and auxiliary buildings; as well as renovations and tenant improvements at existing buildings. They will also handle the implementation of the facility network infrastructure and participate in the full project lifecycle from design to turnover.

Role Location and Travel

The role will be based in Dubai, UAE with 40-60% travel time domestically or to other AMET countries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for project management over new construction of Fulfillment Centers throughout the AMET region, as well as renovations and capacity improvements within existing facilities.
  • Advise on the impact of changes in schedule, costs and permitting.
  • Support construction scope review and development with internal technical teams and operational customers to facilitate engineering and design efforts on new and remodel projects.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, from relatively small renovations to large-sized (up to $100M) new facilities.
  • Work independently in the assigned regional area with minimal direction from leadership.
  • Prepare reports, specifications, and technical analyses to fully define design requirements, equipment and services for capacity expansion and remodel projects.
  • Negotiate contracts and contract changes with developers and general contractors and present formal documentation for approval when required.
  • Provide overall site management, coordination, planning, and coordination of subcontractors.
  • Assess project performance through KPIs for safety, quality, cost, schedule and sustainability.
  • Partner with teams responsible for transition of base building management and turnover documentation oversight.
  • Review designs and ongoing construction for conformance to current building specifications.
  • Provide critical review of current design standards to identify value engineering and design enhancement opportunities.
  • Review and analyze all proposed cost and time change requests from external project teams; guide internal changes for validity, impact and timely incorporation once approved.
  • Lead or assist in negotiations with regulatory bodies and Authority Having Jurisdiction entities as required.
  • Maintain positive, clear, concise and transparent cross-team communication for all project delivery aspects.
What a Typical Day Looks Like

Represent Amazon GES in ensuring the successful delivery of construction projects while improving processes, health & safety and sustainability performance. Lead and mentor large cross-functional teams as an expert resource to complete projects. Act as Subject Matter Expert in your engineering field, providing guidance on technical solutions, cost impact and risk related to projects, safety and delivery.

Daily tasks may include site validation, due diligence, risk analysis, design management, contract and cost negotiations, and stakeholder management. Strong communication skills for front-line and executive levels are essential.

Required Experience
  • Participation during a previous new FC launch at Amazon in any role is preferred.
  • 7 years of project management, real estate development, architecture/design experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • Fluency in one or more of the following languages: French, Polish, Arabic, Turkish, Afrikaans, Zulu, and Portuguese.
