Overview

The role focuses on managing, securing, optimizing, and maintaining Microsoft SQL Server environments for enterprise applications, involving database administration, high availability, backup and recovery, performance tuning, monitoring, troubleshooting, and compliance-driven operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server databases across production and non-production environments.
• Monitor database health, availability, performance, capacity, and reliability using approved database administration tools.
• Optimize SQL queries, indexes, execution plans, and database structures to improve application performance.
• Manage backup, restore, recovery, disaster recovery, and high availability processes for critical database systems.
• Implement database security controls, access permissions, user roles, and compliance-focused configuration standards.
• Troubleshoot database performance issues, blocking, deadlocks, failed jobs, storage concerns, and connectivity problems.
• Support database upgrades, patching, migrations, automation tasks, and environment refresh activities.
• Use SSMS, Azure Data Studio, SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, SQL Server Agent, and related tools for daily administration.
• Review database logs, alerts, scheduled jobs, and performance counters to identify risks before they affect business operations.
• Work with developers, infrastructure teams, application owners, and support teams to maintain stable and efficient database services.
• Maintain documentation for backup schedules, recovery procedures, access controls, configuration changes, and operational standards.

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a SQL Database Administrator or Microsoft SQL Server DBA in an enterprise IT environment.
• Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server administration, monitoring, tuning, backup, recovery, and security.
• Practical knowledge of high availability, disaster recovery, database integrity checks, indexing, and query optimization.
• Experience with SQL Server Management Studio, Azure Data Studio, SQL Server Agent, SQL Server Profiler, Extended Events, and PerfMon.
• Familiarity with Azure SQL, Microsoft Azure Portal, PowerShell with SQL Server Module, Redgate SQL Toolbelt, and Database Engine Tuning Advisor.
• Strong troubleshooting ability with a structured approach to performance, reliability, and database availability issues.
• Good communication skills for working with developers, infrastructure teams, business users, and technical stakeholders.
