Role Context
The Specialist Pulmonologist will provide comprehensive respiratory care for patients with common, complex, and high‑risk pulmonary conditions. The position supports timely diagnosis, structured treatment planning, respiratory stabilization, patient education, and long‑term disease control for individuals with breathing disorders and chronic lung disease.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic respiratory diseases including asthma, COPD, pneumonia, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary fibrosis, sleep‑related breathing disorders, and other pulmonary conditions.
- Conduct detailed patient assessments using medical history, physical examination, respiratory symptom evaluation, risk factor review, and diagnostic test findings.
- Interpret pulmonary function tests, chest imaging, arterial blood gases, bronchoscopy findings, sleep‑related assessments, and other respiratory investigations.
- Perform bronchoscopic procedures and pulmonary interventions within approved clinical scope and patient safety standards.
- Develop individualized treatment plans covering medication therapy, inhaler management, oxygen therapy, respiratory rehabilitation referral, lifestyle advice, and long‑term monitoring.
- Manage patients requiring respiratory support, including oxygen therapy, non‑invasive ventilation, and coordination of escalation care when clinically required.
- Support care for patients with critical respiratory conditions by working closely with intensivists, emergency physicians, internal medicine teams, and ICU staff.
- Collaborate with thoracic surgeons, radiologists, cardiologists, infectious disease specialists, respiratory therapists, nurses, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients and families on disease management, smoking cessation, inhaler technique, preventive care, infection risk reduction, and lifestyle modifications.
- Maintain accurate consultation notes, diagnostic interpretations, bronchoscopy reports, treatment plans, respiratory support records, and follow‑up documentation in accordance with DHA regulations and hospital policies.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, clinical audits, departmental meetings, and continuing medical education activities.
- Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, patient safety standards, ethical medical practice, confidentiality, and evidence‑based respiratory medicine guidelines.
Ideal Profile
- Medical Degree such as MBBS or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Master's Degree, MD, DNB, or equivalent specialization in Pulmonology or Respiratory Medicine.
- DHA Eligibility Letter, valid DHA License, or eligibility to obtain a DHA license as a Specialist Pulmonologist.
- Minimum 3‑5 years of post‑specialization experience as a Specialist Pulmonologist.
- Experience in bronchoscopy, pulmonary function testing, respiratory diagnostics, and management of critical respiratory conditions.
- Valid BLS and ACLS certifications are preferred.
- Fellowship or additional training in Interventional Pulmonology or Sleep Medicine will be an advantage.
- Previous experience in a reputable hospital or multispecialty healthcare facility is preferred.
- Strong clinical knowledge of respiratory medicine, pulmonary physiology, diagnostic interpretation, and long‑term lung disease management.
- Excellent diagnostic judgment, decision‑making ability, patient counseling skills, and communication style.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Strong organizational, documentation, time‑management, and clinical follow‑up skills.
