Job summary

NMC Health is seeking a Head of Department in Abu Dhabi to lead clinical services and drive quality improvement in psychiatric care. You will oversee governance, policy development and coordination with hospital management to ensure high standards of patient safety.

The role requires extensive specialist experience, active life-support certification, UAE registration eligibility, and the ability to mentor staff while maintaining patient confidentiality and ethics.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years post-qualification experience at Specialist level
• 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by UAE healthcare regulator
• Basic medical degree and completion of a recognised specialty qualification/education programme
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by UAE healthcare authority
• Active and valid life support certification (e.g. BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, NRP)
• Eligibility for relevant healthcare authority registration e.g. Membership from Royal College / Arab Board Certification / MS / DM / MPhil or equivalent

Job description

Responsibilities

• Provide a comprehensive professional and ethical quality clinical services to patients in an effective and efficient manner.
• Monitor and manage clinical risks associated with direct patient care.
• Ensure compliance with clinical governance and quality management standards.
• Maintain accurate medical records.
• Ensure excellence in medical practice is maintained by focusing on continuous professional development of self and others.
• Maintain integrity in professional services by executing clinical services in an ethical and responsible manner.
• Performs administrative functions at the Department level as established by the Medical Management.
• Supports Continuous Quality Improvement.
• Develops and promotes appropriate standards of care.
• Develops and implements work assignments, on-call assignments and vacation schedules for Department staff.
• Supervises and monitors the delivery of health care by department staff.
• Provides guidance regarding patient care when indicated.
• Takes remedial action when appropriate.
• Develops and implements effective Peer Review.
• Provides annual and on-going feedback as appropriate.
• Works closely with other concerned committees in developing policies and procedures to promote quality health care for psychiatric patients.
• Exercises effective interpersonal skills in dealings with department staff, with associates and with Management.
• Evidences leadership skills in developing in others the willingness and desire to work toward common objectives.
• Maintains confidentiality regarding patient information and regarding administrative matters of confidential nature.
• Produces written communications, assessments, proposals and administrative documents that are timely and of high quality.

Qualifications

• At least 3 - 5 years’ post qualification experience at Specialist level (independent of country)
• At least 1 year Specialist level experience from a Tier 1 country as specified by the UAE healthcare regulator.
• Basic medical degree and completion of a specialty qualification/education programme (fellowship/diploma) recognised by the relevant UAE healthcare authority.
• Certification and registration in a speciality recognised by relevant UAE healthcare authority.
