The role supports ADNOC Group by providing specialised technical guidance, evaluating new technologies, standardising production optimisation practices, mentoring petroleum engineers, and helping asset teams improve production performance safely, efficiently and cost‑effectively.
Role Context
The Specialist will act as a senior technical authority supporting subsurface, surface and asset teams on production optimisation matters. It connects reservoir behaviour, well performance, artificial lift performance, surface network constraints, plant limitations and digital engineering tools into practical optimisation frameworks, directly contributing to improved production delivery, technical assurance, advanced methodology adoption, risk mitigation, engineering capability development and knowledge sharing across the petroleum engineering community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialised advice and technical guidance on production optimisation matters to support subsurface and surface teams.
- Support asset teams in addressing technical challenges related to well productivity, field performance, artificial lift, network constraints and production system optimisation.
- Participate in the implementation of Technical Center strategies in line with the centre's mandate, objectives and long‑term technical direction.
- Identify production optimisation challenges across ADNOC Onshore assets and recommend practical technical solutions.
- Evaluate new technologies, tools, techniques, methodologies and software solutions for their suitability in solving production optimisation issues.
- Provide expert consultation to asset teams on production optimisation studies, field reviews, well performance diagnostics and integrated production system analysis.
- Promote effective integration between production optimisation and related petroleum engineering disciplines.
- Strengthen the link between well models and surface models to improve integrated production forecasting, troubleshooting and optimisation decisions.
- Provide technical leadership in the design and implementation of high‑level production optimisation frameworks.
- Ensure production optimisation frameworks include clear processes, technical expertise, performance monitoring and value‑focused decision support.
- Review and assure production optimisation activities to confirm they meet asset requirements, ADNOC standards, safety expectations and cost‑effectiveness targets.
- Design, develop and support specialist production optimisation programmes that build stronger technical capability within petroleum engineering teams.
- Promote industry best practices in production optimisation, well performance management and production system efficiency.
- Advise and review the development of production optimisation performance frameworks and relevant key performance indicators.
- Promote continuous improvement, results‑oriented working practices, feedback loops, peer reviews and technical assurance routines.
- Develop standard practices, technical guidelines and engineering workflows for production optimisation activities.
- Encourage consistent application of production optimisation standards and guidelines across ADNOC Onshore assets.
- Capture lessons learned, field experience, best practices and technical insights related to production optimisation.
- Ensure production optimisation knowledge is communicated across assets through technical forums, workshops, peer reviews and structured knowledge‑sharing sessions.
- Coordinate with ADNOC HQ, shareholders and other operating companies on relevant production optimisation practices.
- Support corporate‑level adoption of effective production optimisation technologies, methods and best practices.
- Promote production optimisation learning across the petroleum engineering community.
- Act as a technical mentor to production optimisation staff, petroleum engineers and fresh graduates.
- Deliver in‑house production optimisation training courses to improve engineering capability and practical field understanding.
- Provide guidance on well performance analysis, diagnostics, troubleshooting, stimulation, well testing, workover, rigless activities and production enhancement opportunities.
- Support optimisation of artificial lift systems, especially gas lift and ESP applications.
- Review production system behaviour across reservoirs, wells, networks and plants to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
- Use industry software tools and enterprise data solutions to support modelling, analysis, visualisation and technical decision‑making.
- Ensure production optimisation activities are aligned with technical standards, asset priorities, operational safety and long‑term value creation.
Ideal Profile
- Bachelor degree in Reservoir Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
- M.Sc. or Ph.D. is preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in petroleum production optimisation or closely related activities.
- At least 5 years in a specialist role focused on production optimisation.
- Strong background across all production optimisation aspects, especially subsurface activities at well and field level.
- Wide petroleum engineering expertise covering drilling, completion, stimulation, well testing, workover, rigless operations, artificial lift, well performance analysis, diagnostics, troubleshooting and optimisation.
- Strong understanding of artificial lift systems, especially gas lift and ESP performance.
- Broad and deep engineering understanding of the complete production system, including reservoir, wells, networks and plants.
- Practical experience connecting well models, surface models, network models and production performance data to improve asset decisions.
- Knowledge of standard industry software tools such as PVTSim, Multiflash, Prosper, Pipesim and OLGA.
- Familiarity with enterprise data management and visualisation solutions used in petroleum engineering and production optimisation.
- Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, software tools, technical workflows and optimisation methodologies.
- Strong capability in developing technical frameworks, standard practices, guidelines, performance indicators and peer review mechanisms.
- Experience mentoring engineers, delivering technical training and promoting knowledge sharing across multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong communication, technical leadership, analytical thinking, troubleshooting and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Ability to work in a complex Oil and Energy environment where production performance, safety, asset value and technical integrity are critical.
