Job summary

Worley is seeking an experienced Materials Engineer specializing in corrosion and materials selection for large oil & gas projects in Abu Dhabi. You will lead cross-disciplinary teams across FEED, EPC, and detailed engineering, ensuring safe and cost-effective operation throughout the project life cycle.

The role requires15+ years in Oil & Gas with strong knowledge of NACE, ASME, ASTM, API, and ISO standards, plus leadership and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 15+ years in Oil & Gas or Petrochemical.
  • Minimum 5 years in a lead/senior role overseeing a team of specialists.
  • ADNOC & Offshore project experience preferred.
  • Experience in FEED & EPC phases required.
  • Strong knowledge of material selection, corrosion engineering, coatings, and international standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all materials engineering activities during FEED, EPC, and detailed engineering phases.
  • Develop material selection strategies for facilities, pipelines, piping systems, and offshore structures.
  • Prepare and review material selection reports, corrosion studies, and specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with ADNOC standards and international codes (NACE, ASME, ASTM, API, ISO).
  • Provide expertise in corrosion control, coatings, cathodic protection, metallurgy, welding requirements.
  • Review vendor documents and support design reviews, value engineering, and project delivery.
  • Coordinate with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Civil, Inspection, and Procurement disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage all materials engineering activities during FEED, EPC, and detailed engineering phases of the project.

Develop and implement materials selection strategies for process facilities, pipelines, piping systems, static equipment, and offshore structures, ensuring safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation.

Prepare, review, and approve material selection reports, corrosion studies, material specifications, piping class specifications, and technical requisitions.

Perform materials selection and corrosion assessments considering process conditions, operating environments, and project design life requirements.

Ensure compliance with ADNOC standards, project specifications, and applicable international codes and standards such as NACE, ASME, ASTM, API, and ISO.

Provide technical expertise in corrosion control, coating systems, cathodic protection interfaces, metallurgy, welding requirements, and non-metallic materials applications.

Review vendor documentation, technical bid evaluations, and material compliance documentation to ensure alignment with project requirements.

Support HAZOP, HAZID, constructability reviews, value engineering studies, and design optimization initiatives.

Coordinate closely with Process, Mechanical, Piping, Civil, Inspection, and Procurement disciplines to ensure appropriate material selection and specification.

Participate in technical meetings with clients, vendors, contractors, and stakeholders to resolve material-related issues.

Monitor engineering deliverables and ensure activities are completed in accordance with project schedules, quality standards, and HSE requirements.

Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of Specialists, Senior Engineers, and Engineers to ensure technical excellence and effective project delivery.

Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent from an accredited university, with a minimum of fifteen (15+) years of relevant experience in the Oil & Gas or Petrochemical industry, including a minimum of five (5) years (preferred) in the GCC region.
  • Must have at least five (5) years of experience in a similar position on major Oil & Gas or Petrochemical projects, managing a team of Specialists, Senior Engineers, and Engineers.
  • ADNOC & Offshore project experience is preferred.
  • PMC experiences are preferrable.
  • Experience in FEED & EPC Phases is required.
  • Strong knowledge of material selection, corrosion engineering, metallurgy, coatings, and international standards including NACE, ASME, ASTM, API, and ISO requirements.
  • Experience in preparing Material Selection Diagrams (MSDs), Corrosion Control Documents (CCDs), and material specifications for offshore and onshore facilities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural project environments.
