Job summary

Astra ProMed in Abu Dhabi is seeking a highly qualified Specialist Gastroenterologist to join a leading healthcare facility. The role focuses on diagnosing and managing GI and hepatobiliary disorders with advanced endoscopic procedures and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage GI, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic disorders.
• Evaluate and treat GERD, peptic ulcers, IBS, IBD.
• Perform upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy within privileges.
• Conduct endoscopic biopsies, polypectomy, and therapeutic endoscopy as trained.
• Manage liver diseases, hepatitis, fatty liver, infections.
• Assess abdominal pain, GI bleeding, dysphagia, chronic symptoms.
• Interpret liver function tests, imaging, and endoscopic findings.
• Develop individualized long-term treatment plans.
• Handle GI emergencies with ED/ICU teams.
• Collaborate with surgeons, hepatologists, radiologists, pathologists.
• Ensure DOH regulations, endoscopy safety, infection control, patient safety.

Job description

We're Hiring | Specialist Gastroenterologist

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Specialist Gastroenterologist to join a leading healthcare facility in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic disorders
• Evaluate and treat GERD, peptic ulcer disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
• Perform upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy within authorized clinical privileges
• Conduct endoscopic biopsies, polypectomy, and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, where appropriately trained and credentialed
• Diagnose and manage liver diseases, hepatitis, fatty liver disease, and gastrointestinal infections
• Evaluate patients presenting with abdominal pain, gastrointestinal bleeding, dysphagia, and chronic digestive symptoms
• Interpret diagnostic investigations, including liver function tests, stool studies, abdominal ultrasound, CT scans, and endoscopic findings
• Develop individualized treatment plans and provide long-term management for chronic gastrointestinal conditions
• Manage gastrointestinal emergencies, including acute GI bleeding, in coordination with emergency and critical care teams
• Collaborate with general surgeons, hepatologists, radiologists, pathologists, and multidisciplinary healthcare professionals
• Ensure compliance with DOH regulations, endoscopy safety protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards

Requirements

• MBBS/MD or equivalent recognized medical degree
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Internal Medicine, followed by appropriate specialization or subspecialty training in Gastroenterology
• Board certification or equivalent recognized specialist-level qualification
• American Board, UK, Canadian, Australian, European, or other internationally recognized qualifications are highly desirable
• Minimum 3-5 years of relevant post-specialization experience preferred, subject to applicable licensing requirements
• Strong expertise in gastrointestinal disease management, diagnostic endoscopy, colonoscopy, and hepatology
• Experience in therapeutic endoscopy, ERCP, or endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) is an added advantage
• Eligible for DOH Specialist Gastroenterology classification/license in Abu Dhabi, subject to applicable UAE PQR requirements and clinical privileges
