The opportunity
Based in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, the Specialist - Data Centre Physical Security reports to the Director – Physical Security. This hands-on, multi-site role ensures consistent, auditable physical security across the data centre portfolio through three equally weighted pillars: operational delivery, technical security systems, and documentation and assurance. Beyond shift supervision, it owns the DCPS document set and electronic security systems and holds landlords and guarding vendors to their obligations.
The role has three pillars of equal weight: operational delivery, technical security systems and the document and assurance framework that ties them together. The role-holder is expected to be visible on site, to understand how the security systems work rather than only how to use them and to keep documentation accurate enough that an auditor could walk in on any day.
Your key responsibilities
- Own consistent day-to-day physical security delivery across all sites and shifts, ensuring uniform execution of SOPs and post orders.
- Act as the senior operational escalation point, making fast, sound decisions without waiting for direction.
- Inspect physical barriers, access points, surveillance coverage, alarm points and guard practice; close corrective actions.
- Plan coverage for deliveries, contractor works, customer visits, equipment moves and change windows.
- Deputise for the Director – Physical Security on operational matters when required.
- Own DCPS document management end to end: policies, standards, SOPs, post orders, work instructions, forms and templates.
- Maintain a controlled register with each document’s owner, version, approval status, review date and control mapping.
- Review every document at least annually and after significant incidents, audit findings, regulatory or operational changes.
- Draft and update SOPs and post orders to reflect actual site operations; retire obsolete or duplicate documents.
- Manage approval workflows and ensure only current, approved versions are used at every site and post.
- Maintain document traceability to NIST SP 800-53 (PE family), ISO/IEC 27001 Annex A physical controls and applicable UAE requirements. Keep audit evidence continuously current, not just before reviews; coordinate internal, customer and certification audits and close findings. Brief guards and site teams on document changes and confirm understanding through spot checks.
- Manage guarding vendor delivery against contracts, post orders and KPIs for deployment, attendance, post coverage and performance. Approve deployment schedules for full, compliant coverage during leave, turnover and emergencies. Ensure effective, recorded training, induction and refresher programmes. Enforce UAE guard licensing compliance, including validity, renewal and on‑site verification. Address underperformance early through the vendor and elevate contractual issues to the Director – Physical Security.
- Own ESS operations across the portfolio: ACS, VMS/CCTV, intrusion detection and alarm monitoring. Review and approve controlled configuration changes to access levels, door schedules, alarm settings, camera coverage and video retention. Run periodic access reviews and recertification; process joiners, movers and leavers accurately and promptly. Analyse nuisance and false alarms and investigate repeat points to root cause. Periodically test door hardware, anti-passback, interlocks, camera coverage and video retention to verify designed performance.
- Own operational KPIs for guard performance, incident response, ESS availability, fault closure, access reviews and document review compliance. Lead improvements to simplify, standardise or automate security processes across sites.
- Be the day-to-day operational contact for landlords, guarding vendors and contractors. Coordinate with data centre operations, facilities, IT security and reception so security supports rather than disrupts site operations.
- Escalate matters requiring contract, budget or policy decisions to the Director – Physical Security.
What we’re looking for
(a) Required skills / qualifications
- 7+ years of physical security experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or assistant manager role. Proven experience writing, maintaining and controlling security policies, SOPs and post orders, including running a formal review cycle.
- Demonstrable hands‑on experience with enterprise access control and video management systems in a critical environment. Experience supporting security audits against recognised standards (e.g. ISO/IEC 27001, SOC 2 or NIST SP 800-53). Experience managing outsourced guarding contracts against SLAs and KPIs.
- Strong knowledge of enterprise access control systems (architecture, access level design, door hardware, anti-passback and interlocks); video management systems (camera coverage, recording, retention and evidence export); document control (version control, approval workflows, review cycles and document registers); physical security control frameworks (NIST SP 800-53 PE family and ISO/IEC 27001 Annex A physical controls); and guard force deployment, post orders, processes and procedures.
- Attention to detail: notices what others miss and does not let small deviations slide. Systems thinking: understands how people, process and technology controls depend on each other. Ownership: treats documentation as an operational control, not an administrative task. Hands‑on leadership: leads from the site, not the office.
- Decisiveness: makes fast, practical calls under operational pressure. Accountability: owns KPI delivery and compliance outcomes personally. Clear communication: writes and reports plainly, with no spin.
(b) Preferred skills / qualifications
- Diploma or degree in security management, risk management, electronic engineering or a related field preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- Experience in a data centre or other critical infrastructure environment is strongly preferred.
