Job Description
Responsible to independently or under the supervision of a senior sonographer to perform all sonography imagery procedures, analyze output, and report to the supervisor as needed.
Responsibilities
Managerial
- Maintain sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
- Report shortages of materials to the supervisor at the earliest convenience and maintain records for ordering and replenishments.
Technical
- Perform all ultrasound imagery procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Apply detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Evaluate and assess ultrasound images for quality, appropriateness, and completeness, advising staff when necessary, and forwarding images to the radiologist for review.
- Recognize anatomy and pathology in cross-sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols and liaise with radiologists for further imaging or tests.
- Ensure the safe and competent use of all radiology equipment, patient aids, and appliances, reporting incidents or equipment faults promptly.
- Maintain a clean and organized working environment, including restocking supplies and cleaning equipment.
- Advise medical and technical staff on appropriate techniques and imaging interventions.
- Handle initial inquiries from patients and clinical staff, relaying information as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Quality & Safety
- Promote and maintain quality in all services, ensuring continuous quality improvement.
- Conduct method evaluation and development per policies.
- Comply with safety and quality control procedures, including infection control and environmental safety measures.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Practice within established policies and procedures.
- Ensure SOPs and QA tests are up to date.
- Document interventions appropriately.
- Support clinical audit processes and report findings.
- Communicate professionally with patients, families, and staff to obtain information, explain procedures, and relay status.
Education
- Participate in educational sessions, including teaching, induction, peer reviews, case studies, and presentations.
- Participate in departmental and hospital committees and staff meetings as requested.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new staff and interns.
- Share information internally and externally following policies.
- Maintain professional knowledge through continuous education.
- Complete all regulatory requirements, including licensure, certification, and mandatory training within deadlines.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology, and abdominal sonography, with at least 2 years as a senior ultrasound radiographer.
- UAE Nationals: Minimum 2 years postgraduate experience in general radiography.
Desired:
- Postgraduate Ultrasound Diploma or Certificate.
