Job description

City University Ajman is seeking a passionate and experienced individual to join our faculty team as a Sociology Faculty Member. The successful candidate will be responsible for facilitating student learning, delivering effective instruction, and evaluating student performance across assigned classes. As an integral part of the academic community, the Sociology Faculty Member will contribute to curriculum development, program assessment, and academic policy enhancement.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate student learning through effective instruction and evaluation in accordance with standard course outlines.
• Develop course curriculum, handouts, lectures, discussions, and presentations to support student learning objectives in sociology.
• Participate in program-level learning assessment activities, including articulating learning outcomes, administering measures, evaluating student performance, and suggesting improvements.
• Propose and implement policies to enhance academic development and research within the College and University, with a focus on sociological perspectives.
• Collaborate with faculty and administrators to develop program curriculum, standards, and policies, including textbook selection and integration of sociological theories and methods.
• Schedule, supervise, examine, and evaluate students in internship, observation, and field experience settings as appropriate for sociology courses.
• Work with the Dean to align Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs) with Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs) and contribute to the Program Assessment committee for the Sociology Department.
• Maintain accurate student records and submit grades in compliance with university standards and deadlines.
• Ensure adherence to audit, quality assurance, and risk management procedures to maintain service excellence.
• Maintain high standards in teaching, research, and resource management, documenting evaluation and monitoring procedures for compliance and improvement.
• Prepare course materials and uphold scheduled responsibilities, including office hours and meetings.
• Maintain availability to students via in-person office hours, email, or phone, with clear communication of contact methods and hours.
• Coordinate with the Dean and College members to support university research projects and community engagement initiatives from a sociological perspective.
• Participate in faculty evaluation processes and contribute to community service projects.
• Ensure a safe, healthy environment and proper maintenance of university equipment.
• Foster a dynamic and forward-looking learning environment, supervising academic advising and remaining current in sociological research and pedagogy.
• Attend professional conferences, pursue continuing education, and stay updated on sociological advancements.
• Follow the Professional Development Plan proposed by the Dean and participate in university activities and meetings.
• Perform other academically related duties as assigned by the Dean.

Qualifications:

• Experience in sociology research or teaching.
• A Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Sociology or a related field.
• Demonstrated expertise in sociological theories, methods, and applications.
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Commitment to academic excellence, research integrity, and student success.
• Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and policy implementation is desirable.
