Job summary

A leading engineering firm in Dubai is seeking an experienced professional to oversee technical engineering problems and manage landscaping projects. The chosen candidate will be responsible for garden installation, reviewing technical submittals, preparing progress reports, and ensuring compliance with quality standards. This role requires strong communication skills and project management experience in the landscaping field.

Responsibilities

  • Provide resolution for technical engineering problems within assigned disciplines.

  • Perform all aspects of garden installation including hardscape, irrigation, and plant placement.
  • Review shop drawings and material submittals.
  • Prepare and present work progress reports.
  • Participate in landscaping design review where required.
  • Maintain records for activities on site.
  • Design irrigation systems for landscape projects if necessary.
  • Advise the Project Manager on technical aspects affecting construction progress.
  • Conduct project site observations and inspections.
  • Lead the snagging and de-snagging process.
  • Ensure compliance with project quality control procedures.
  • Communicate HSE policies and instructions.
  • Assign short-term work schedules to subordinates.
  • Provide coaching to team members.
  • Monitor compliance with organizational policies.
Job description
Responsibilities
  • Provides resolution for technical engineering problems within the assigned disciplines; coordinates application of solutions to ensure progress on site.
  • Coordinates process with other disciplines.
  • Assists with selection of native plants appropriate to their locality, exposure, soil, and landscape desires.
  • Performs all aspects of garden installation including hardscape, irrigation, and plant placement.
  • Reviews shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, RFI responses, and as-built drawings.
  • Reviews technical submittals related to soft landscaping and hard landscape works.
  • Prepares and presents work progress reports on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis.
  • If required, participates in landscaping design review with design approving agencies including technical expertise in soft and hard landscaping works.
  • Maintains records for activities on site including progress photos and ensures they are readily available for inspection as required.
  • Prepares surveillance reports for deficiencies of work found at site that are believed to have failed or if the contractor is not complying with verbal instructions and, if required, completes a Non-Conformance Report (NCR).
  • If required, designs irrigation systems for landscape projects.
  • Advise the Project Manager of any technical aspects that may affect construction progress, quality, and related matters.
  • Continually review the contractor’s construction schedule during the progress of site works.
  • Hands-on monitoring of landscape works for conformance with contract documents and the procedures manual.
  • Monitors procurement and deliveries to ensure timeliness in support of construction activities and schedule within the assigned discipline.
  • Undertake general project site observation and inspection of works for contractor adherence to approved shop drawings, consultant specifications, good working practices, the construction schedule, and health & safety requirements.
  • Be available for off-site inspections of proposed materials as deemed necessary by the Project Manager.
  • Lead the snagging and de-snagging process with the aim to progress the works to completion.
  • Attend project/site progress and related technical meetings as directed by the Project Manager.
  • Prepare draft site engineers instructions relating to the project and issue to the Project Manager as required.
  • Provide advice to the Project Manager regarding any variation costs that may be claimed by the Contractor during the course of the works.
  • Oversee junior staff members for all landscape work and ensure installation activities comply with contractual obligations and quality control standards.
  • Ensure that project quality control procedures are used and monitored for improvement.
  • Collaborate with construction management to eliminate hazards that may adversely affect the environment or the safety/health of employees.
  • Review and interpret discipline design drawings and specifications to ensure current revision level and correct technical execution of the work.
  • Perform works inspection requests and material inspection requests as required.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
  • External Communications: Help others get the most out of external communications systems by offering support and advice.
  • Construction Management: Supervise others on a construction project, working within established operational systems.
  • Health, Safety and Environment (HSE): Follow the organization’s HSE policies, procedures, and mandatory instructions to identify and mitigate environmental risks and risks to well-being; instruct the team in safe working methods and escalate serious issues as appropriate.
  • Work Scheduling and Allocation: Assign short-term work schedules to a team of subordinates to achieve expectations while following established timelines.
  • Leadership and Direction: Communicate the local action plan and relate it to the organization’s mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals.
  • Performance Management: Respond to objectives, use performance management systems to improve personal or team performance, allocate work, and review completion with appropriate corrective actions.
  • Organizational Capability Building: Provide coaching to team members to develop their skills.
  • Quality Assurance: Plan and coordinate testing and inspection of products and processes; implement corrective actions or continuous improvement initiatives and monitor effectiveness.
  • Operational Compliance: Identify instances of noncompliance with organizational policies or regulatory codes within the team; report and escalate issues as appropriate.
  • Client and Customer Management: Help senior colleagues manage client relationships using relevant client systems.
