Job Description
- Negotiate charter agreements with ship owners and brokers to secure optimal terms, ensuring cost-effectiveness and compliance with regulations.
- Conduct thorough market analysis and assessments to identify trends and adjust chartering strategies accordingly.
- Coordinate logistics and operational details for vessel loading and unloading, ensuring timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
- Monitor vessel performance and utilization rates, implementing corrective actions to optimize fleet efficiency.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, ship owners, and port authorities.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on chartering activities, financial performance, and market conditions to senior management.
- Oversee the preparation of all necessary documentation, including charter parties, bills of lading, and customs paperwork.
- Manage risk assessments and ensure compliance with maritime regulations and safety standards to mitigate potential liabilities.
- Collaborate with the finance team to track and manage charter costs, invoicing, and budget forecasting.
- Lead a team of chartering professionals, providing mentorship and guidance to enhance their skills and career development.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or a related field is essential for foundational knowledge.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in shipping, chartering, or logistics, demonstrating a deep understanding of market dynamics.
- Preferred industry certifications such as the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) or equivalent to showcase professional expertise.
- Previous experience in a managerial role within a shipping company, highlighting leadership capabilities and decision-making skills.
- Familiarity with international maritime regulations and compliance standards to ensure operational legality.
- Proficiency in maritime software systems and tools for efficient charter management and reporting.
- Strong negotiation skills with a proven track record of securing favorable charter agreements and contracts.
- Excellent communication skills in English, with additional language proficiency in Mandarin or Spanish considered a plus.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
