Detailed Job Description

As a Senior Transmission Planning Engineer supporting advanced network design and optimization in Abu Dhabi, UAE via ATLAS Telecom, you will take full operational, tactical, and technical ownership of end-to-end transmission network planning, architecture design, and technical proposal development. Your day-to-day responsibilities include planning and designing microwave links with strong hands-on experience using Pathloss 5, designing DWDM and OTN optical transport networks, and engineering IP/MPLS and carrier Ethernet network architectures including QoS and network synchronization. You will prepare comprehensive network designs, link and capacity plans, High-Level Designs (HLD), Low-Level Designs (LLD), Bill of Quantities (BOQ), Bill of Materials (BOM), technical proposals, and design documentation. Furthermore, you will support RFP/RFQ responses, lead customer technical discussions, and execute Proof of Concepts (PoCs) in close coordination with sales, engineering, and deployment teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and design end-to-end transmission networks, covering microwave, DWDM/OTN, carrier Ethernet, and IP/MPLS architectures.
• Execute microwave planning, path profile analysis, line-of-sight verification, and link engineering using Pathloss 5.
• Design scalable DWDM and OTN optical transport networks, ensuring high capacity, resiliency, and optimal wavelength routing.
• Engineer robust IP/MPLS and carrier Ethernet networks, incorporating advanced Quality of Service (QoS) and network synchronization.
• Prepare comprehensive network designs, link and capacity plans, High-Level Designs (HLD), and Low-Level Designs (LLD).
• Generate accurate Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bill of Materials (BOM) for tender submissions and project deployments.
• Author professional technical proposals, design documentation, and engineering specifications for client projects.
• Support RFP/RFQ responses, lead customer technical presentations, and conduct Proof of Concept (PoC) evaluations.

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of professional working experience in transmission network planning and design.
• Strong hands-on microwave planning and design experience utilizing Pathloss 5 software.
• Proven practical expertise in DWDM and OTN network planning, optical transport engineering, and fiber backbone design.
• Deep technical knowledge of IP/MPLS and carrier Ethernet network planning, including QoS mechanisms and network synchronization (SyncE, PTP/1588v2).
• Extensive experience in end-to-end transmission network architecture, system integration, and traffic engineering.
• Strong technical proposal writing, HLD/LLD preparation, and BOQ/BOM estimation capabilities.
• Mandatory legal eligibility to work in the United Arab Emirates with local residency and availability for on-site operations in Abu Dhabi.

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Professional vendor certifications from major networking and optical manufacturers (e.g., Nokia, Huawei, Cisco, Ciena).
• Prior professional working experience with tier-1 telecommunications operators or system integrators across the GCC / UAE region.
• Familiarity with submarine cable systems, 5G transport fronthaul/backhaul architectures, and SDN/NFV optical control planes.
• Experience in multi-vendor interoperability testing and advanced network management systems (NMS).
