Job summary

Caliberly is seeking a Senior System Architect for a part-time engagement to shape the architecture of a modern cross-border payments and financial infrastructure platform, including exchange, clearing, messaging, and digital currency.

You will design distributed, event-driven, and microservices-based systems, guide teams, and balance pragmatism with long-term scalability while collaborating with product, engineering and DevOps.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering with architecture experience.
• Strong background in distributed, event-driven, microservices systems.
• Solid Java back-end stack knowledge (Spring/Spring Boot).
• Experience designing high-availability, high-throughput financial systems.
• Familiar with relational/NoSQL databases and caching.
• Cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP), security design.
• Observability and resiliency patterns; capacity planning.
• Ability to create architectural docs, diagrams, guidelines for engineering teams.
• Experience collaborating with product, engineering, and DevOps teams.
• Bonus: payments domain knowledge (ISO 20022/SWIFT)

Our client is building a modern cross-border payments and financial infrastructure platform (exchange, clearing, messaging, digital currency) for banks and financial institutions. We are looking for a Senior System Architect (part-time) to define and evolve the overall architecture of our platform.

Profile summary

• 10+ years of experience in software engineering, with several years in system or solution architecture roles
• Strong background in designing distributed, event-driven, and microservices-based systems
• Solid understanding of Java-based back-end stacks (Spring/Spring Boot), APIs, and integrations
• Experience designing high-availability, high-throughput systems for mission-critical or financial use cases
• Strong knowledge of database and storage design (relational, NoSQL, caching)
• Comfortable working with modern cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP), networking, and security design
• Experience with observability, resiliency patterns, and capacity planning
• Ability to create clear architectural documentation, diagrams, and guidelines for engineering teams
• Used to collaborating with product, engineering, and DevOps to balance pragmatism vs. long-term scalability
• Bonus: experience in payments, FX, cross-border transfers, ISO 20022/SWIFT, or regulated financial environments

Engagement

• Part-time role (flexible workload, for example 2–3 days per week or equivalent), focusing on architectural design, reviews, and mentoring

Languages and location

• Fluent English is a must (written and spoken)
• Location: strong preference for UAE, Dubai, with flexibility for remote candidates who are highly qualified
