Responsibilities:

  • Lead the structural design and analysis of shopping mall components including foundations, slabs, columns, beams, parking structures, long-span roofs, and atriums.
  • Coordinate closely with architects, MEP engineers, and contractors to ensure the structural system supports project functionality and design intent.
  • Prepare and review detailed structural drawings, specifications, design calculations, and BOQs.
  • Supervise structural design activities across all stages: concept, schematic, detailed design, tender, and construction.
  • Ensure structural systems comply with local codes, international standards (e.g., ACI, BS, Eurocodes), and shopping mall load criteria (live loads, foot traffic, equipment, façade, etc.).
  • Oversee construction site activities to ensure adherence to structural drawings, material specifications, and quality standards.
  • Evaluate contractor submittals, method statements, shop drawings, and material approvals related to structural works.
  • Resolve structural issues and provide technical guidance during construction, especially related to heavy equipment installation, escalators, lifts, façade anchorage, and dynamic loading areas.
  • Conduct value engineering and structural optimization studies to improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Attend coordination meetings, review project progress, and support the project team in achieving milestone targets.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in structural engineering, with at least 5 years on large-scale shopping malls or commercial projects.
  • Strong knowledge of concrete and steel structural systems relevant to retail complexes.
  • Proficiency in structural design and analysis software (e.g., ETABS, SAFE, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, Robot, Revit Structure).
  • Excellent understanding of construction practices, structural detailing, and site supervision protocols.
  • Strong report writing, communication, and client presentation skills.
  • Experience coordinating with authorities for design approvals is preferred.
  • Chartered Engineer or Structural Engineer license (e.g., PE, CEng) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of green building standards (LEED, Estidama) is an advantage.
