Position: Pediatrics Ward Nurse Manager
Position Summary:

The Pediatrics Ward Nurse Manager assumes responsibility for the daily clinical operations of the Pediatrics Ward. The role involves providing guidance and assistance on clinical issues to the nursing staff, coordinating patient admissions, and ensuring timely patient discharges under the guidance of the line manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:
General Responsibilities:
  • Patient-Centered Care: Provide age-specific, patient-centered care using the nursing process.
  • Patient Assessment: Perform comprehensive assessments to identify physical and psychological needs of patients and families.
  • Care Planning: Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to plan and adjust critical care and clinical pathways based on individual patient needs.
  • Documentation: Accurately document all patient data and care activities according to hospital standards.
  • Care Coordination: Coordinate and prioritize care based on patient needs and revise care plans as necessary. Initiate appropriate transfer plans.
  • Family Involvement: Involve patients, families, and healthcare providers in care planning where appropriate.
  • Supply Management: Ensure the availability and proper maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  • Infection Control & Safety: Adhere to infection control practices and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
Operational Management:
  • 24-Hour Care Coordination: Ensure efficient, safe, and economical 24-hour nursing care in line with established standards.
  • Staff Supervision & Education: Supervise and teach staff to improve and maintain clinical skills, providing guidance on age-appropriate care and patient needs.
  • Teamwork: Foster a collaborative environment of teamwork, respect, and cultural diversity within the unit.
  • Clinical & PI Indicators: Monitor clinical and performance improvement (PI) indicators, reporting issues to the Head Nurse.
  • Medication Handling: Ensure safe handling and documentation of controlled drugs and medications.
  • Clinical Competency: Maintain clinical and professional competency by staying current with research and established standards.
Professional Development:
  • Ongoing Education: Participate in ongoing educational activities, ensuring compliance with mandatory educational requirements.
  • Clinical Competency: Complete annual critical care nursing competencies and participate in continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Leadership and Management:
  • Scheduling & Policy Writing: Assist the Manager with scheduling, policy writing, and other operational projects.
  • Unit Goals: Contribute to the creation and achievement of measurable goals for the unit.
  • Patient Care Delivery: Ensure high-quality care delivery to assigned patients in an efficient manner.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (minimum 3 years full-time course duration), or
    • Degree in Nursing (minimum 2 years course duration).
    • Valid registration as a Registered Nurse from recognized countries (e.g., Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia).
    • UAE nationals with UAE or non-UAE university qualifications are exempt from experience and clinical training requirements.
  • Certifications:
    • Must hold a valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or other relevant certifications based on scope of practice.
  • Professional Experience:
    • Minimum 3-5 years of recent postgraduate experience in a Pediatrics Ward.
    • Previous experience as a Team Leader or Senior Staff Nurse is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in assessing physical and psychological needs of patients and families.
    • Strong skills in care coordination, prioritization, and planning.
    • Ability to provide age-appropriate care and manage developmental needs.
    • Excellent leadership, mentoring, and interpersonal skills.
