Senior Sonographer-SKMC-Ultra Sound - Clinical

Responsible to independently perform all sonography imagery procedures, analyze output and report to supervisor as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  1. NLT 4 years post graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography (of which NLT 4 years experience as a senior ultrasound radiographer in an acute care hospital).
  2. UAE National: NLT 2 years relevant experience in an acute care hospital.
  3. NLT 6 years post graduate experience in ultrasound in an acute care hospital, including Doppler, obstetrics/gynecology and abdominal sonography (of which NLT 5 years experience as a senior ultrasound radiographer in an acute care hospital).
  4. UAE National: NLT 3 years relevant experience in an acute care hospital.

Responsibilities:

  1. Managerial: Supervising junior staff and ensuring their abidance to going rules and policies as applied and implemented in the Section/Department/Facility.
  2. Maintaining sufficient inventory of material supplies and equipment for performance of duties.
  3. Reporting shortage of materials to supervisor at earliest convenience, ordering and approving replenishments when necessary.
  4. If required, organizing and evaluating new equipment against perceived planned needs relating to different areas of Ultrasound.
  5. Directing and monitoring all procedures carried out by junior staff under supervision and stepping in whenever there is a requirement.
  6. Performing all Ultrasound imagery procedures in accordance with department policies, procedures and protocols.
  7. Assisting Ultrasound Radiographers (Sonographers) with technical difficulties and advanced procedures.
  8. Evaluating images for acceptable quality, correct parameters, appropriateness and completeness.
  9. Forwards images to Radiologist for review and reporting.
  10. Performing other related radiography (special) procedures as required.
  11. Recognizing anatomy and pathology in cross sectional imaging to optimize scan protocols, and liaising with radiologists to arrange further imaging or tests.
  12. Responsible for the safe and competent use of radiology equipment, patient appliances and aids used in the department.
  13. Reporting any incidents and equipment faults or deterioration to the manager in a timely manner.
  14. Operating advanced software on specialist Ultrasound equipment.
  15. Maintaining a clean and tidy working environment, including restocking of supplies for subsequent use and equipment cleaning.
  16. Providing advice to medical/technical staff on appropriate techniques and imagery interventions.
  17. Dealing with patients and clinical staff initial enquiries and relaying to clinical staff where necessary.
  18. Performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
  19. Promoting and maintaining quality in all services and ensuring continuous quality improvement measures are in place.
  20. Ensuring compliance with all safety and quality control programs and procedures as applicable.
  21. Ensuring compliance with applicable precautions for environmental safety, infection control, using a series of interventions that minimize or prevent cross infection.
  22. Maintaining and assisting in enforcing the strictest confidence in relation to patient information.
  23. Complying and ensuring that those directly supervised comply with occupational health and safety at work policies and procedures.
  24. Assisting in the planning and developing policies that guide the service implementation process.
  25. Practicing within the expressed limits of established policies and procedures.
  26. Ensuring that SOP (standard operation procedures) and Quality Assurance tests are maintained within all sections.
  27. Being responsible for documenting all interventions in appropriate format.
  28. Assisting in the development of clinical audit processes within the service and reporting on these as agreed.
  29. Communicating in a professional and courteous manner with patients, family and other medical personnel as necessary.
  30. Delivering and participating in training and education sessions for department staff, doctors and nurses.
  31. Participating in department programs/committees, various hospital committees, and staff meetings.
  32. Participating in the orientation and training of new employees and radiography interns.
  33. Ensuring appropriate internal and external sharing of information based on governing policies and procedures.
  34. Maintaining professional knowledge by attending lectures, seminars or on-line education units.
