Job summary

Al Shola in the United Arab Emirates seeks a senior service engineer to diagnose, repair and commission Cummins, CAT and Perkins diesel generators from 100 kVA to 2,000 kVA. You will lead technicians, manage warranties and ensure safety compliance on site.

Responsibilities include on-site breakdown response, PM inspections, coordinating ATS and generator control panels, and delivering reports with test results and recommendations for fleet reliability.

Qualifications

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical or electromechanical engineering.
• 8+ years hands-on service experience on diesel generators from 100 kVA to 2,000 kVA.
• Experience leading a team of technicians and coordinating multiple jobs.
• Proven use of OEM diagnostic software and electrical test equipment.
• Valid UAE driving licence.

Job description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

GENERATORS

• Diagnose and repair Cummins, CAT and Perkins diesel gensets (100–2,000 kVA): fuel, cooling, lubrication, air intake, turbo and electronic engine management systems.
• Use OEM diagnostic tools (Cummins INSITE, CAT ET, Perkins EST) to read fault codes, adjust parameters and update software.
• Troubleshoot alternators, AVRs, breakers and protection relays; carry out insulation resistance and winding tests.
• Configure and repair controllers (DeepSea, ComAp, PowerCommand, EMCP, Woodward) and ATS panels.
• Commission synchronised and paralleled multi-set installations, including load sharing and grid/mains parallel where required.
• Perform load bank tests and issue test reports before delivery and after major repairs.

AIR COMPRESSORS

• Service and repair portable diesel air compressors (e.g. Atlas Copco, Doosan, Sullair, Kaeser): air ends, unloader/regulation systems, separators and coolers.
• Check delivered pressure and flow (bar/CFM) against specification and customer duty.

SERVICE DELIVERY

• Monitor planned preventive maintenance (PPM) by running hours and calendar, including oil sampling.
• Respond to on-site breakdowns 24/7 and restore power or air quickly and safely.
• Monitor complete pre-delivery inspections (PDI) and off-hire inspections, recording damage, fuel and hour readings with photos.
• Lead overhauls and major component replacements (top-end, in-frame, alternator rewind coordination).

TEAM, QUALITY AND RECORDS

• Allocate jobs to and supervise technicians; check their work and sign off completed jobs.
• Train junior staff on OEM procedures, diagnostics and safe working.
• Raise accurate job cards, service reports and parts requests in the rental/ERP system.
• Identify repeat failures, perform root cause analysis and recommend fixes or fleet modifications.
• Support warranty claims and liaise with OEM dealers on technical bulletins and parts.
• Follow and enforce HSE rules: permit-to-work, LOTO, PPE, lifting, hot work, fuel and spill control.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL

• Minimum 8 years' hands-on service experience on Cummins, CAT and/or Perkins diesel generators from 100 kVA to 2,000 kVA.
• At least 3 years as a senior or lead engineer guiding a team of technicians.
• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Electromechanical Engineering.
• Proven experience with synchronising, load sharing, ATS and generator control panels.
• Working experience on portable diesel air compressors.
• Competent with OEM diagnostic software and electrical test equipment (multimeter, clamp meter, insulation tester).
• Valid UAE driving licence.

PREFERRED

• OEM training certificates (Cummins, CAT, Perkins, Atlas Copco or similar).
• Experience in a power rental company or OEM dealer in the GCC.
• Exposure to critical-power sites: hospitals, data centres, oil & gas, utilities.
• HSE training (e.g. IOSH Working Safely, NEBOSH) and electrical authorisation.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Split between workshop and customer sites across the UAE, including outdoor work in high summer temperatures.
• On-call rota for 24/7 breakdown support, with overtime and weekend work as needed.
