Overview

Senior Research and Development Technology Manager

Job Purpose :

Manage the research and development (R&D) projects and activities in the field of nuclear science and technology, covering multidisciplinary focus areas of advanced nuclear systems, fuel cycle technologies, operations and maintenance, spent fuel and radioactive waste, materials development, nuclear safety, security, and sustainability. This includes overseeing nuclear R&D programs, managing collaborative partnerships, building capabilities, and ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities and strategic goals in clean and secure energy.

Responsibilities
  • Nuclear Research and Development – Manage the investigation of advanced nuclear technologies and publish both quantitative and qualitative results to promote and bring credibility to the research and development program.
  • Identify industry needs and define solution / product development requirements in alignment with deployment conditions.
  • Assess existing technologies, evaluating performance, safety, and economic viability to inform decision-making.
  • Develop technical insights and integration strategies for R&D to support ENEC, utilities, and industrial clients in deployment of new technologies and solutions.
  • Evaluate BNPP operational objectives and ongoing initiatives to identify key challenges and opportunities for improvement, where R&D team can support.
  • Manage research and development competency framework and pipeline research professionals to develop expertise in the field of nuclear science and related technologies.
  • Manage the initiation of new research proposals and coordinate research, scientific, technical and commercial activities to ensure alignment with enterprise priorities.
  • Manage a research and development pipeline of potential future research projects such as nuclear and environmental safety, nuclear fuel cycle technology, radiation science, waste management, non-electric missions and other areas to support future enterprise priorities.
  • Manage the investigation of development of novel advanced nuclear reactors with a substantially improved safety, economics and environment-friendly features to ensure alignment with performance and safety parameters.
  • Direct research projects (to time, budget and quality objectives) to ensure successful delivery of projects.
  • Define project charter including mission, objectives, research focus areas, stakeholders and KPIs.
  • Develop detailed project plans covering schedule, budget, quality, resources, risks, communication, and procurement, in line with project scope and goals.
  • Manage research and development criteria based on enterprise needs and priorities for portfolio prioritization.
  • Manage mechanisms for selecting, managing, and controlling the performance of research projects to ensure alignment with prioritization criteria.
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of nuclear research projects, including prioritization, initiation, planning, execution, and closure—ensuring structured governance, delivery on time, within scope and budget.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with project’s objectives, assess potential risks, and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Establish a funding structure and mechanism for research and development projects and joint venture opportunities to ensure alignment with project prioritization and selection.
  • Provide regular review of the research portfolio to optimize scientific output, innovation, and return on investment.
  • Collaboration and Partnership within R&D program – Establish collaborations and partnerships, promote ENEC and the UAE Nuclear Program, and establish strategic R&D relationships with potential research partners to advance the program and enterprise priorities.
  • Establish a framework to enable collaborations and partnerships with leading international research and development institutions and programs.
  • Build constructive relationships with stakeholders through networking and attending meetings and events important to ENEC research programs.
  • Engage with stakeholders, customers, and end-users to collect feedback, measure impact, and drive continuous improvements.
  • Coordinate and manage internal stakeholder engagement to align R&D activities with the needs of Operations, Engineering, Radioactive waste management, Maintenance, Environment, Security, and other functions.
  • Drive ENEC’s R&D ambition to establish a Center of Excellence and support the development of research infrastructure that advances innovation capabilities and supports the UAE’s clean energy strategy.
  • Create frameworks for international cooperation in joint research, knowledge sharing, and technology benchmarking.
