This Position Reports To:

Automation Engineering Manager

In this role, you will have the opportunity to be a design authority for an engineering discipline. Each day, you will complete assignments on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects in a cost-effective manner. You will also showcase your expertise by ensuring assignments are completed in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards.

As a Technical Lead, you will oversee engineering activities in assignments classified as medium engineering complexity, with a specialization in Process Control and/or Safety Systems. Your expertise with ABB 800xA and/or other ABB Control Systems will be key in delivering high-quality solutions. You will manage multiple projects or segments of major initiatives within your discipline, ensuring all work aligns with contractual obligations, engineering standards, and safety protocols.

This role reports to the Automation Engineering Manager in Dubai. Main stakeholders include customers, project managers, supply chain teams, manufacturing, testing, and commissioning teams, and engineering colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

1. Leading and approving design deliverables, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and contractual requirements.
2. Anticipating and resolving technical issues using advanced engineering concepts and best practices.
3. Collaborating with customers to shape solutions, gather feedback, and support customer retention through excellent service.
4. Providing technical support during installation, commissioning, and start-up, ensuring smooth and compliant execution.
5. Finalizing key concepts such as the 'Fail-Safe Philosophy' and resolving technical issues during project meetings.
6. Applying Design Thinking, conducting peer reviews, and promoting knowledge sharing to drive continuous improvement.
7. Developing and applying standard engineering techniques while ensuring HSE and regulatory compliance.
8. Managing risks and opportunities by addressing safety, quality, and cost issues with proactive recommendations.
9. Creating work plans and cost estimates to ensure timely, high-quality, and cost-effective project delivery.
10. Coordinating with Manufacturing, Testing, and Supply Chain teams to execute seamless technical solutions and support ABB 800xA systems.

Qualifications

• Highly skilled in ABB 800xA with AC 800M and interface configuration using protocols like Modbus, Profibus, IEC, and OPC, with experience in Oil & Gas and Power & Water sectors.
• Over 5 years of experience in automation engineering, especially in automation systems and control solutions.
• Experience as a technical lead with ABB control systems (e.g., 800xA, Symphony Plus, Freelance) across Oil & Gas and Power & Water industries.
• Strong knowledge of industrial cybersecurity and networking for control systems.
• Passionate about customer engagement and problem-solving, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Degree in Engineering with extensive knowledge of automation systems and process applications.
• Proficient in English for technical and customer-facing communication.
• Hands-on experience with Oil & Gas customers such as ADNOC, understanding industry-specific requirements.
