Job summary

Astra ProMed in Abu Dhabi, UAE, is seeking a Consultant Ophthalmologist to join our leading healthcare facility. The role focuses on diagnosing and managing eye diseases, performing advanced ophthalmic procedures, and delivering comprehensive vision care.

The ideal candidate has MBBS/MD with postgraduate Ophthalmology, board certification, and 5–10 years post-specialization experience, with eligibility for DOH Consultant Ophthalmology license in Abu Dhabi.

Qualifications

• MBBS/MD or equivalent recognized medical degree.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology.
• Board certification or equivalent recognized consultant-level qualification.
• American Board, UK CCT, Canadian, Australian, European, or other internationally recognized qualifications are highly desirable.
• Minimum 5-10 years of relevant post-specialization experience preferred.
• Eligible for DOH Consultant Ophthalmology classification/license in Abu Dhabi, with appropriate clinical privileges, subject to UAE PQR requirements.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and other ophthalmic conditions.
• Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, visual assessments, and diagnostic evaluations.
• Perform cataract surgery and other ophthalmic procedures, within authorized clinical privileges.
• Evaluate and manage refractive errors, corneal diseases, ocular infections, and inflammatory eye disorders.
• Perform and interpret diagnostic investigations, including OCT, fundus photography, visual field testing, and ocular ultrasound.
• Develop individualized medical and surgical treatment plans based on clinical findings.
• Diagnose and manage ophthalmic emergencies, ocular trauma, and sudden visual disturbances.
• Provide comprehensive pre-operative assessments, surgical management, and post-operative follow-up.
• Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmic technicians, neurologists, endocrinologists, and other specialists.
• Educate patients regarding eye health, treatment options, and preventive vision care.
• Ensure compliance with DOH regulations, ophthalmology protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards.
