Job summary

Astra ProMed in Abu Dhabi is seeking a highly qualified Consultant Pediatric Ophthalmologist to lead pediatric eye care services in a premier facility. The role demands extensive expertise in pediatric disorders, strabismus, and vision development, with opportunities for surgical leadership and advanced diagnostics.

The successful candidate will have MBBS/MD, postgraduate ophthalmology credentials, and board or international qualifications, with a track record of 5–10 years in pediatric

Qualifications

• MBBS/MD or equivalent recognized medical degree.
• Recognized postgraduate qualification in Ophthalmology.
• Board certification or equivalent recognized consultant-level qualification.
• Fellowship or advanced subspecialty training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus is desirable.
• Internationally recognized qualifications (e.g., American Board, UK CCT) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and manage pediatric eye conditions in infants, children, and adolescents.
• Evaluate and treat strabismus, amblyopia, congenital cataracts, refractive errors, and other childhood visual disorders.
• Conduct comprehensive pediatric eye examinations and visual development assessments.
• Perform strabismus surgery and other pediatric ophthalmic procedures within authorized clinical privileges.
• Diagnose and manage congenital and hereditary eye diseases including pediatric glaucoma and retinal abnormalities.
• Develop individualized treatment plans for children with complex ophthalmic conditions.
• Interpret diagnostic investigations including OCT, fundus imaging, ocular ultrasound, and age-appropriate visual field assessments.
• Provide pre-operative assessments, surgical planning, and post-operative follow-up.
• Collaborate with pediatricians, neurologists, orthoptists, optometrists, and other ophthalmology specialists.
• Educate parents and caregivers regarding treatment options, visual development, and long-term eye care.
• Ensure compliance with DOH regulations, pediatric ophthalmology protocols, infection control, and patient safety standards.
