Job Description

Experienced Senior SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) with over 10 years of experience in managing large-scale databases. The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in database optimization, recovery strategies, fine-tuning, and security protocols. This role involves maintaining high-performance databases and ensuring data integrity, availability, and scalability across multiple systems.

Desired Candidate Profile

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manage and administer large-scale SQL Server databases (1+ TB) with a focus on performance optimization and availability.
2. Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SQL Server databases from SQL Server 2014 R2 to the latest versions.
3. Design, implement, and maintain database backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
4. Optimize complex queries, stored procedures, and indexes to improve performance.
5. Implement robust security measures, including encryption, auditing, and access control, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
6. Monitor database performance using tools and scripts, addressing any issues related to slow queries, locks, or deadlocks.
7. Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maintaining high availability.
8. Develop and maintain high-availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) environments using techniques like clustering, mirroring, replication, and Always On Availability Groups.
9. Automate routine database maintenance tasks and monitoring.
10. Collaborate with application development teams to enhance database design and optimize queries.
11. Conduct regular capacity planning, forecasting, and performance reviews to ensure optimal system performance.
12. Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior DBAs and development teams.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
2. 10+ years of hands-on experience in SQL Server database administration.
3. Extensive experience in managing and optimizing large databases (1TB+).
4. Strong expertise in SQL performance tuning, index optimization, and query optimization.
5. Advanced knowledge of SQL Server high-availability solutions, including clustering, mirroring, replication, and Always On Availability Groups.
6. Proficient in designing and implementing disaster recovery strategies.
7. In-depth knowledge of database security best practices, including encryption, access control, and auditing.
8. Hands-on experience with SQL Server versions 2014 R2 through the latest releases.
9. Expertise in T-SQL, scripting, and automation of database tasks.
10. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on continuous improvement.
11. Ability to provide 24x7 on-call support for critical production environments.

Preferred Skills (Optional):

1. Experience with SSIS, SSRS, and SSAS.
2. Proficiency in cloud-based database solutions such as Azure SQL.
3. Experience with PowerShell scripting and database automation.
4. Familiarity with other database systems (MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL technologies.
