Role Overview

The Mechanical Engineer will oversee and manage all mechanical engineering activities related to chillers and HVAC systems for the rail project during construction. Responsibilities include validating contractor designs, ensuring compliance with standards, and supporting construction supervision. The role requires close collaboration with various departments to ensure successful project execution, focusing on the integration and optimization of chillers/HVAC systems within rail infrastructure development.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Validate mechanical designs for chillers and HVAC systems provided by the contractor, ensuring compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Oversee installation, testing, and commissioning of systems, ensuring quality and adherence to specifications.
  • Ensure quality control throughout installation and commissioning phases.
  • Review and approve mechanical drawings, shop drawings, and material submittals.
  • Conduct site assessments to gather data on existing mechanical conditions and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Identify and mitigate mechanical risks related to chillers and HVAC systems.
  • Provide regular progress reports to clients and stakeholders, highlighting risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure provision of necessary mechanical data to the Contract Administration Senior Manager.
  • Support construction supervision, addressing mechanical issues as they arise.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations on chillers and HVAC systems.
  • Coordinate meetings to ensure all mechanical obligations are met.
  • Ensure HVAC designs and installations comply with local codes, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate system performance during construction.
  • Liaise with external consultants, contractors, and authorities for compliance.
  • Conduct site visits to verify implementation of recommendations.
  • Provide training and guidance to junior engineers and team members.

Qualifications and Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's preferred.
  • Professional certifications such as PE or equivalent are highly desirable.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years in mechanical engineering design and construction, focusing on chillers and HVAC, preferably in large infrastructure or transportation projects.
  • 2-5 years as a Design Engineer in HVAC systems.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical principles, construction contracts, and industry standards.
  • Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) and fire alarm/firefighting systems integration.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD / BIM.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in rail projects is highly desirable.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills specific to large-scale infrastructure HVAC systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of HVAC components and building systems interaction.
  • Knowledge of current codes and standards, including plumbing and building codes.
  • Relevant HVAC certifications (e.g., LEED, Certified Energy Manager).
  • Proven leadership and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in engineering software and construction processes.
