The Industry 4.0 District is a major initiative by UAE University, aligning with its goal to become the University of the Future. This District Hub is an advanced industrial innovation and prototyping centre, designed to bridge the gap between research, education, and industry. Equipped with state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies, including CNC machining, additive manufacturing, automation systems, robotics, and drones, the hub serves as a collaborative space for engineers, students, and industry professionals. Our mission is to drive cutting-edge research, product development, and technical training to empower the next generation of innovators and enhance industrial capabilities.

The successful candidate for the Senior Mechatronics Engineer position will collaborate closely with the District's management and coordinators.

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Senior Mechatronics Engineer to lead our Additive Manufacturing Section within the District Hub. This role involves managing industrial 3D printing operations, optimizing AM workflows, and overseeing research & development projects. The engineer will also be responsible for training staff, mentoring students, and delivering educational workshops to advance knowledge in FDM, SLA, SLS, and metal 3D printing.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Technical & Operational Management:
  • Oversee all aspects of additive manufacturing (FDM, SLA, SLS, and metal 3D printing).
  • Develop best practices for 3D printing processes, material selection, and post-processing techniques.
  • Manage the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of AM equipment.
  • Optimize print parameters and production workflows to enhance efficiency and reduce material waste.
  • Research, Development & Industrial Application:
    • Lead R&D projects focused on advanced AM applications, including composite materials and hybrid manufacturing.
    • Collaborate with researchers, startups, and industrial partners to push innovation in AM.
    • Explore new materials, design methodologies, and software tools to enhance AM capabilities.
    • Develop prototypes, tooling, and functional parts for real-world applications in automotive, aerospace, medical, and industrial sectors.
    • Stay updated on Industry 4.0 trends, including AI-driven design, digital twins, and IoT integration for smart manufacturing.
  • Training & Knowledge Transfer:
    • Conduct technical training sessions for engineers and technicians on 3D printing operations, machine calibration, and troubleshooting.
    • Develop and deliver educational workshops for university students on AM technologies, including design for additive manufacturing (DfAM).
    • Mentor students in capstone projects, research activities, and industrial internships related to AM.
  • Team Leadership & Collaboration
    • Supervise and guide engineers and technicians, ensuring smooth operations in the AM section.
    • Work closely with other sections in the District (CNC machining, electronics, metal fabrication) to integrate AM into hybrid manufacturing solutions.
    • Assist in the procurement of new machines, materials, and software licenses for the AM section.
    • Maintain a safe and organized lab environment following safety standards.
    Minimum Qualification
    • Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
    • 5+ years of experience in additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and product development.
    • Hands-on expertise in FDM, SLA, SLS, and metal 3D printing.
    • A good knowledge of CAD & 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, Rhino, or CATIA).
    • Experience with CAM & slicing software.
    • Understanding 3D scanning & reverse engineering techniques.
    • Knowledge of post-processing methods (sanding, curing, sintering, support removal).
    Preferred Qualification
    • Master's degree in mechanical, mechatronics is a plus.
    • Previous experience in mentoring, training, or conducting educational workshops is a plus.
