Job description

To lead and manage the performance optimization and technical support activities for Masdar s large-scale projects (solar PV, wind, thermal and energy storage). The role focuses on diagnosing technical issues, enhancing asset reliability, and leveraging data analytics to reduce downtime and improve efficiency ensuring full alignment with the investment business case. The role involves serving as the central point of expertise for troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance enhancement across operational and aging renewable energy assets besides sharing operational feedback and findings within the Engineering verticals (Solar PV, Wind, Thermal and Energy Storage, Technology and Infrastructure)

Performing Engineering activities throughout the development cycle

  • Develop and maintain in-house diagnostic and performance tracking tools tailored for renewable assets, reporting to management regularly overall performance of the entire fleet of renewable assets.
  • Explore and evaluate different new software/tools to be used during the development
  • Liaise with supervisory personnel, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and construction problems in regard to the development of detailed designs for various assigned CE projects
  • Collaborate with MSTS/O&M, design, and other functions to provide lessons learned and ensure designs account for operational reliability and generation enhancement.
  • Working closely with MSTS Performance team on the Enterprise Asset Management
  • Keep abreast of new technologies and best practices in asset management and performance optimization via suggesting initiatives for technical excellence and cost efficiency.
  • Support the Engineering during the repowering of the assets

Preparation of performance related chapters in Request for Proposal (RfP) and tender documents:

  • Prepare and defining the technical requirements for RfP/tender documents for both Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors, Owners, Engineer and Project Management Consultants.
  • Demonstrate thorough familiarity in international design, codes and standards, procurement, construction globally and knowledge of technical specifications required confirming that the renewable assets incorporate weather and operational sensors and inputs ensuring that availability and performance can be monitored following best practices.

RFP bid evaluation regarding performance aspects:

  • Take to lead in the evaluation and the selection of 3rd party independent advisor relating to performance aspects to the agreed Masdar standards and general codes of practice
  • Develop technical evaluation matrix defining the selection criteria of technical consultants for such purposes

Participation and support to EPC contracts and Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) evaluation and negotiations regarding performance aspects

  • Ensure clear incorporation and definition of all plant s performance requirements in the contracts aligned with the PPA and Masdar requirements for any Masdar renewable projects

Construction and commissioning supervision of performance work:

  • Provide technical support to the PMO during the construction as per the contractual requirements ensuring full compliance with the performance requirements with more emphasize on the resource (wind or solar) measurement campaign
  • Manage the revision metrological recorded data during the execution phase
  • Provide performance benchmarking and validation support during asset commissioning and early operations.
  • Review on SCADA and weather monitoring stations configuration to ensure the proper data recording for performance evaluation of the Project
  • Monitor and validate performance and availability tests carried out by the EPC prior Plant Provisional Acceptance and Commercial Operation Date ensuring minimum guarantees values are achieved and compliance with contract technical requirements

Technical support to operational projects:

  • Evaluate the plant performance or review the performance report prepared by the contractor on regular basis and prepare a report on actual plant performance on regular basis and compare them against approved investment assumptions and contractual guarantees/obligations
  • Review and evaluate the performance of O&M contractor and operator and report on compliance with preventive and corrective maintenance requirement from project agreements.
  • Assess the availability and management of spare parts on regular basis and provide recommendation to ensure proper performance of the project.
  • Assess the Contractor s or operator s report to ensure the compliance with any HSE requirement in corporation with QHSE department
  • Provide technical support to Portfolio Management team, as required, in operational plant s performance matters that may rise during the asset lifetime.
  • Lead root cause analysis for recurring technical issues across the solar, wind, and BESS portfolios. Serve as escalation point for complex field failures and technical queries.
  • Use SCADA data, field reports, and advanced analytics to monitor asset performance or identify recurring issues and initiate performance improvement plans or provide recommendations to refine maintenance plans.
  • Define and update MTTF/MTBF models for critical components. Interface with OEMs, MSTS/O&M and Portfolio Management to collect reliability data.

Desired Candidate Profile

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in electrical engineering, Renewable Energy or any other related displine
  • Master s degree in engineering is an asset
  • Chartered Engineer status e.g. (e.g. IET, EUR Ing, PEng) is desirable

Preferred Experience:

  • At least 6 years of performance engineering experience within the renewable energy sector specifically in solar and wind power plants or equivalent experience
  • 8-12 years of experience within the renewable industry (preferably with an EPC contractor, engineering firm or technical consultant) or equivalent experience
  • Experienced in data analytics and programming
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, condition monitoring, and failure analysis

  • Fluency with Python, MATLAB, or similar data analysis tools
