Job Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, organizational (internal) processes & standards, operational risk framework, and overall / end-to-end process governance for WBG segments. The role holder will be responsible for business risk management and compliance activities in five key areas: Process Controls and Governance, Ongoing Due Diligence (ODD), Business Risk Advisory, and Monitoring. Although there is no direct financial delivery linked to this position, it is crucial in ensuring banks comply with regulatory requirements and that business risks are managed and mitigated to avoid financial penalties, fines, and reputational damage.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Develop policies and procedures (SOPs) and implement heightened monitoring measures on portfolios under WBG umbrella where needed.
- Identify specific change requirements and define the end-to-end process with risk mitigation and control measures.
- Regularly review and update client-facing applications and forms to reflect changing regulatory requirements.
- Handle CBUAE related reporting requirements, including KYC and ongoing due diligence.
- Conduct quarterly training on KYC/ODD for First Line of Defence staff (FLOD).
- Prepare weekly & monthly ODD/DQ/other reports for the Compliance forum and senior management.
- Monitor and enforce restrictions, locks, and exits on accounts as per the consequence management policy.
- Ensure effective implementation and performance of operational risk controls within the 1st Line of Defence for Wholesale Banking Group.
- Collaborate with Regulatory, Financial Crime, and CDD teams to identify adverse trends, control weaknesses, and systemic risks.
- Support oversight of regulatory and financial crime controls, ensuring consistency.
- Assist in coordinating a holistic approach to Regulatory/AML/CTF/Sanctions assurance activities across the bank, embedding best practices.
- Develop and manage annual BRG plans for key activities.
- Assess the impact of key regulations on WBG processes and technology.
- Provide guidance on regulatory concerns or issues highlighted by stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including the Chief Compliance Officer, Head of Operational Risk, and others.
- Present compliance matters to senior management and recommend strategic or operational changes.
- Build risk awareness through staff training and support.
- Assist with audit activities and address observations, representing the front line.
- Ensure RCSAs are completed for all WBG/TBG processes.
- Facilitate development of risk, control, and security assessments.
- Monitor origination procedures to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
- Create and circulate dashboards to manage Business Risk and Governance activities, educating stakeholders about significant risks.
- Review policies and protocols, recommending modifications for process improvements.
- Support activities to enable efficient business processes within the Business Risk & Governance function.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree from a recognized university (minimum).
- 7-10+ years of banking experience, with senior-level expertise in compliance, audit, or operational risk.
- Experience in relevant environments such as Operational Risk, Business Risk, or Internal Audit within financial services.
- Deep knowledge of UAE regulatory frameworks, Wholesale & TBL banking products, and operational risk frameworks.
- Relevant product knowledge, including control monitoring and facilitating risk and control assessments (RCAs).
