Job Purpose :
The Senior Business Development Manager (SBDM) is responsible for leading the business development efforts within their respective markets, focusing on driving sales, growing revenue, and improving gross profit for a larger portfolio of clients. The role involves developing and maintaining key client relationships, overseeing a team including junior officers and pricing officers, and managing high-value customer accounts. The SBDM coordinates with other branches to drive global opportunities, supports trade lane development, and enhances WeFreight's profile as a trusted service provider.
Key Responsibilities :
- Leadership and Portfolio Management :
- Lead business development efforts for a larger client portfolio, ensuring revenue and profit targets are met.
- Manage and mentor a team of junior officers and/or pricing officers.
- Act as escalation point for key accounts, ensuring client satisfaction and retention.
- Monitor team performance and conduct evaluations for development opportunities.
- Sales and Business Development :
- Develop and implement sales strategies for new business across SMEs and large businesses.
- Secure new business to meet revenue and profit targets.
- Generate leads, pursue clients, and record opportunities in CRM.
- Ensure accurate recording of customer data and sales visits.
- Drive trade lane development by identifying opportunities and increasing traffic.
- Collaborate with internal teams to promote offerings.
- Develop growth strategies for profitability and market share.
- Market Representation & Promotion :
- Promote WeFreight as a senior market leader to customers, vendors, and stakeholders.
- Increase marketplace awareness and promote core trade lines and products.
- Collaboration with Branches :
- Align trade lane strategies globally and support cross-border opportunities.
- Lead joint sales efforts and manage large accounts across regions.
- Strategic Planning & Market Analysis :
- Identify market opportunities and develop strategic approaches.
- Lead sales meetings and share insights on market trends.
- Gather intelligence to support global strategies.
- Operational Collaboration :
- Work with Operations and Customer Service to execute SOPs.
- Support delivery of high-quality services.
- Financial & Administrative Support :
- Follow up on customer payments with receivables.
- Provide customer feedback for continuous improvement.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) :
- Achievement of sales and profit targets.
- Growth of client portfolio and revenue streams.
- Leadership and development of direct reports.
- Performance of key trade lanes.
- Coordination of joint sales efforts.
- CRM data accuracy and reporting.
- Conversion rate of sales visits to revenue.

Education requirements :
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Sales, Marketing, or related field.
Background and experience :
Experience in freight forwarding or logistics is required.
Competencies and skills :
- 5-10 years in business development, with 2+ in a senior role, preferably in logistics.
- Proven success managing large client portfolios and generating revenue.
- Experience mentoring sales teams.
- Understanding of trade lane development within a global network.
- Leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship skills.
- Strategic thinking and market analysis.
- Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities.
