Job description

We are currently recruiting a Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial law - Procurement to be based in Abu Dhabi. You will be responsible for providing strategic legal support and advice on procurement-related matters across various jurisdictions. This includes drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts for the procurement of goods, services, and materials essential to operations, including but not limited to nuclear fuel, spare parts, manpower, and insurance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and mitigating legal risks associated with procurement activities. You will be in the range of 8-12 yrs PQE, holding a law degree (Juris Doctorate or equivalent) from a major law school and admitted as an attorney in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or similar jurisdiction.

Responsibilities :

  • Procurement Contracts Management

Draft, review, and negotiate procurement contracts across multiple jurisdictions, including :

Purchase of nuclear fuel and related components.

  • Supply of spare parts and equipment.
  • Service agreements, including manpower and operational support.
  • Insurance policies and associated risk coverage.
  • Ensure contracts meet the organization’s standards and align with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure that procurement activities are aligned with business objectives and strategies.
  • Cross-Jurisdictional Transactions
  • Advise on legal considerations and compliance requirements for procurement transactions across various jurisdictions.

    Assess and address differences in legal systems and procurement regulations in international markets.

  • Coordinate with local counsel, as necessary, to ensure adherence to local laws and best practices.
  • Regulatory Compliance
  • Ensure that procurement activities comply with relevant regulatory frameworks, including export controls, nuclear safety regulations, and other applicable laws.

    Stay informed on changes to international, regional, and local laws affecting procurement, including nuclear-specific regulations.

  • Provide guidance on trade compliance, sanctions, and licensing requirements for cross-border procurement.
  • Risk Mitigation
  • Identify and manage legal risks associated with procurement and supply chain activities.

    Required :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB or equivalent);
  • Admission as an attorney in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or similar common law jurisdictions.
  • 8 years of experience in a leading international law firm specializing in procurement contracts and transactions, preferably in energy, nuclear, or highly regulated industries.
  • Strong knowledge of contract law, international procurement standards, and regulations applicable to cross-border transactions.
  • Strong familiarity with international nuclear law frameworks, including IAEA regulations and nuclear-related treaties.
  • Ideally have :

  • 12+ years of legal experience in a leading local or international law firm and / or experience working as in-house counsel.
  • Broad-based nuclear industry experience, including in licensing, construction, operations, and maintenance.
  • Experience managing a person or a team.
  • The package will be highly competitive (they are a highly coveted employer in the region); benefits include relocation, annual bonus, education allowance for up to four children under 18 years, car loan instalment for five years, interest-free, end-of-service gratuity payment, equivalent to one month of basic salary for each full year of service.
