About the Legal Department
The Legal Department provides legal advice to all of TE’s companies in the UAE & Qatar to protect the interests of TotalEnergies and minimize legal risks. The scope includes high-value assets with complex contractual arrangements. The environment features evolving legislation, requiring flexible and diplomatic negotiation skills.
Role Objectives
The Senior Legal Counsel supports TotalEnergies’ activities by:
- Minimizing legal risks
- Optimizing commercial position
- Finding pragmatic, diplomatic solutions
Major Activities
Negotiations and Agreements
- Participate in negotiations with national, private, and joint venture partners
- Prepare, review, and validate agreements and contracts
- Advise on terms and implications of existing agreements
- Ensure compliance with local laws and group policies
- Maintain agreements database and ensure regulatory alignment
Corporate Requirements
- Coordinate with authorities (Customs, Ministry of Economy, JAFZA, DED, etc.)
- Advise management on legal aspects of corporate structure, labor law, tax, and compliance
- Supervise documentation for corporate affairs
- Assist with governance, due diligence, and audits
- Manage corporate information databases
Disputes and Litigation
- Support debt collection efforts
- Manage external legal support for litigation
- Draft resolutions for corporate actions
- Conduct legal awareness campaigns
Corporate Governance & Secretariat
- Organize board and shareholder meetings
- Maintain statutory records
- Update corporate policies and documents
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements
- Coordinate filings with external counsel
Administrative Functions
- Coordinate legal documentation and administrative activities
- Support internal departments with legal matters
Accountabilities
- Establish legal structures for business operations
- Advise on legal constraints and compliance
- Ensure agreements meet TotalEnergies standards
- Maintain good relationships with partners
HSSEQ & Compliance
- Adhere to HSSEQ guidelines
- Ensure compliance with policies including sanctions and export controls
Qualifications and Skills
- Master’s in Law
- 5-7 years’ experience in legal environment
- Knowledge of Petroleum Law, International Business Law, and related fields
- Autonomy, adaptability, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work independently
- Proficiency in drafting and document management
