Senior Java Backend Engineer

Job summary

Caliberly is seeking a skilled Java Developer to design, build, and maintain high-performing backend applications in an IT services setting. You will work with cross-functional teams including product, architecture, QA and operations to deliver scalable, reliable software solutions.

The role covers server-side development, RESTful APIs, microservices or monolithic systems, code quality, performance optimization and integration with databases and cloud platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline.
• 3-5 years of professional software development experience with hands-on Java.
• Strong Java core proficiency (Java 8+), OOP and design patterns.
• Experience with Spring (Boot/MVC), Hibernate/JPA, REST APIs and microservices.
• Familiarity with relational and NoSQL databases and SQL/query design.
• Experience with Git/SVN, Maven/Gradle and CI/CD; containerisation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyse business requirements and translate to technical specifications and code.
• Develop, test and deploy Java-based server-side modules, REST APIs, microservices or monolithic systems.
• Write clean, efficient, maintainable and well-tested code; perform code reviews and uphold standards.
• Optimize performance, scalability and memory usage; ensure high availability.
• Integrate with databases, third-party services and cloud deployment platforms.
• Troubleshoot production issues and monitor system health.
• Collaborate with DevOps, QA and product teams to support CI/CD pipelines and agile methods.
