Job summary

dwp. is seeking a Senior Interior Designer to lead design teams from concept through to detailed documentation.

You will steer space planning, material selection, FF&E specs, and BIM/CAD modeling, coordinating with architecture and MEP to deliver projects that meet client goals, codes, and sustainability targets. You will mentor junior designers, manage multiple projects, and embrace new technologies, including AI tools, to enhance creativity and efficiency.

Job description

The Senior Interior Designer leads and collaborates with design teams to develop creative and functional interior design solutions, from initial concept through to detailed documentation and project completion. This role involves space planning, material selection, FF&E specification, BIM/CAD modeling, and coordination with other disciplines, ensuring projects meet client needs, design goals, regulatory requirements, and sustainability principles. The Senior Interior Designer is committed to design excellence, mentoring junior team members, and effectively utilizing technology, including AI tools where appropriate.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Interior Design or Architecture (if applicable).
• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Specific Area e.g., commercial interior design, hospitality design, etc, with a proven track record of successfully delivering projects.
• Add any relevant certifications or licensure requirements here, if applicable. Consider adding leadership/management experience as a preferred qualification

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to lead design tasks and small project teams effectively.
• Ability to use BIM and REVIT (expert level) with continuous improvement through consultation and support from Senior BIM Technician / BIM Manager.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, and to mentor junior designers.
• Adaptability and willingness to integrate new technologies, including AI, into design workflows.
• Capabilities to use AI tools, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and Generative AI.
• Communication skills (written, verbal, and visual), excellent and interpersonal.
• Strong design talent and a portfolio demonstrating creative, practical, and technically proficient solutions.
• Good/Excellent written and spoken English .

Responsibilities

1. Project Startup and Planning

• Lead the project team in understanding project requirements, client briefs, and design goals.
• Conduct and oversee client background and project context research.
• Define key project stakeholders and their roles.
• Develop project schedules and documentation lists, delegating tasks as appropriate- Review and summarize all statutory requirements in regards to local authority submissions.
• Lead the preparation of project proposals, including scope of work, deliverables, and resource allocation.

2. Design and Documentation

• Lead the development of interior design concepts, including space plans, elevations, sections, and details, using BIM software (e.g., Revit, ).
• Prepare and deliver design presentations using approved software (e.g., Google Slides, Marq, Adobe Creative Suite) to communicate design ideas to clients and stakeholders.- Research, select, and approve materials, finishes, furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FF&E), considering sustainability, performance, and budget.
• Oversee the BIM/technical team to ensure accurate model development and documentation, providing guidance and quality control
• Lead internal design reviews and provide constructive feedback to junior designers- Conduct site visits to gather information, document existing conditions, assess construction progress, and ensure design intent is being followed

3. Project Coordination and Management

• Coordinate with other disciplines (architecture, MEP, structural) to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Develop and track project budgets, in collaboration with project managers. Delegate budget tracking tasks as appropriate.
• Lead project meetings and document key decisions and action items.
• Review shop drawings, material submittals, and RFIs, providing timely and accurate feedback Increased responsibility.
• Oversee construction progress and ensure compliance with design intent and specifications.

4. Communication and Collaboration

• Communicate effectively with the project team, clients, and consultants.
• Present design ideas clearly and persuasively, and effectively address client feedback Added responsibility.
• Provide regular project updates and reports to the Design Director and clients- Contribute project information and updates to update Hubspot.

5. Administration and Professional Development

• Lead internal team meetings and contribute to discussions on project progress and design issues.
• Maintain accurate time records using the company's time tracking system and ensure team compliance Added responsibility.
• Actively participate in continuing professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge, and encourage team participation.

6. Quality Assurance

• Ensure the team's adherence to the company's quality management system and design standards. Increased responsibility.

• Conduct quality control reviews of drawings and specifications, and provide mentoring to junior staff

7. AI Integration

• Explore and utilize approved AI tools (including LLMs and Generative AI) to improve internal processes.
• Generate design options and variations.

• Provide guidance and training to the team on the effective use of AI tools.
• Report to the Design Director for implementing AI on projects.
